well guys my first proper supercharger problem has occured....

now first off i must say, im a firm beliver im posting the good, the bad and the downright ugly....... ive posted so many great stuff about my ess vt2, and ive never had a single problem, but im happy to also post issues i have and customer service i recieve on fixing the issue... afterall when the probs occur this is when you want to know how your going to be treated.

now my supercharger unit has been on my car for about 1 year 1-2 months and has only covered 1100 miles, this is a summer only use car for me, and it see's dry weekend use only....

about a week ago i noticed some s/c lube oil underneath the vortech unit, i decided nothing of it and cleaned it up, retorqued all the brass fittings and placed some black tape on the chassis rail so i can easily see if their are any future leaks, today my first drive after trying to resolve my oil leak on the oil cooler line ( new orings needed) i notice droplets of supercharger oil on my chassis rail again. so i stick my hand underneath low and behold the underside is completely soaked with s/c gear oil, after much inspection, checking all the fittings, oil level, oil drain, the leak is coming from the actual casing when the two halves join together, the seal inside the unit has blown, the unit does not leak when the car is idling but leaks when boost is applied.

now being a huge ess fan and not wanting to be an ass without a response from them, i can honestly say im REALLY dissapointed, i really wouldnt expect leaks on a 1 year old s/c unit... but these things happen, ive emailed a detailed mail to ess and my tuner (simpson motorsport) who will hopefully come and collect the car on a truck, they will then take the unit off the car and workout what the hell is going on.

I am looking forward to the response from ess and how they deal with this, needless to say i really would like a new s/c unit and now my car could be away for weeks......... really really fed up right now, i will update this thread once ess have showed me which direction to take to get a resolution. ESS have never ben anything but brilliant with me during the whole process, im looking forward to seeing how they deal with my first real issue, so far vt1-vt2 has been GREAT, im really hoping this wont leave me without my car for weeks and weeks. i cant lie im worried about the vortech unit...... im hoping this is jus bad luck on my part and all will be well. please note, this kit is within the 2 year warranty period, so SHOULD be repaired at ess's cost.

luck is definatly not on my side at the moment, kinda fed up atm :-(

i will update as soon as possible

byron

p.s all my expeiences will be posted, good, bad, problems, i have however only ever recieved perfect service from ess, but will update this thread in due course.

Bad news :(

Is this related to running more boost with the VT2 or could Simpson have done anything to it? How easy is it to swap out the 'charger?

Sorry to hear about the problem matey. Hope it gets resolved soon. :(

Also i always thought it's great that you make these kinds of posts, it's good for everyone to have as much information as possible on as many problems/issues/experiences as possible on the forums.

swapping the charger is piss easy, infact its the easiest thing on the whole car to replace, its just the time and effort all this will take to get sorted...... the shipping of new parts ect ect

the vortech unit is rated upto 25psi..... im using 7.5 psi...... so boost or vt2 really shouldnt be an issue, im doubting simpson had anything to do with this problem, im sure its just co-incendence but it certainly didnt have this issue when it wen into them :-(

VT2 seems to have just pushed this particular unit over te edge, im guessing i already had a weak unit, and the extra strain pushed it overthe edge, this kit is still in warranty and the warranty is intact as all work as been performed by simpson. im more gutted about the downtime in summer, and the fact ive got a trackday booked for the weekend....

it does get hard use but nothing that the kit isnt designed for, ow well, lets see this gets sorted, the car definatly has to go back to simpson, at east they can run the car up on the dyno to see whats going on under boost.... either way i want a new supercharger..... i will not except anything less.

like i say im firm believer of posting up all experience, good and bad. im SURE ess will do the right thing and get me back on the ASAP. ill keep this thread updated, my run of bad luck has just been insane as of late............

cheers mate, i will always post up ALL experiences, again thanks for the comments, means alot...... car looks rather sad, lol!!!

mmmm i wonder if i can get ess to send me an anniverary black edition charger ???????

Sorry to hear. Fingers crossed this gets resolved with the least amount of fuss as yours is a pilot car for a good few people over here (myself included at some point in the non-too-distant future with any luck) and after-sales support from ESS is pretty important in the decision making process

Hope it gets resolved soon, nothing worse than a sick Z!

Bad news!!

But tuning to the degree will inevitably have its issues and complications. Thats why it doesn't 'really' appeal to me. I'd sooner sell my car and take the 5-10k you've spend and genuinely upgrade to something faster; rather than bolt on something.

Appreciate you sharing the experience, but again 1100miles in a yr isn't a fair test to qualify whether this kit is fit for general day to day usage?!

Hope you get it sorted.

for sure, the car does low mileage with me, it does however get proper use, also ali the 5-10k ive spent cant buy me a faster car than this :-) thats why i did this :-)

again im just sharing my experience, good and bad......... roman from ess responded on another forum and said this is the first failure theyve seen, so im guessing i could just be unlucky.

took some pics of the underside with the help of my trusty little mirror....

s/c oil drip, after a drive with boost this running down the chassis rail....

great pic of this here

note completely dry braided line, and oil on compressor bolt

more oil on compressor housing bolt

note completely dry dipstick and breather fittings

This unit is leaking from the centre join that joins the 2 halfs together, under boost it makes an mess.

hopefully i can get new blower sent out then i can take my car to simpson as they are a 2.5 hour drive from my home, which means they diagnose the same as me then my car is stuck at the tuner for a good while waiting for the new blower increasing its chances of being damaged.

according to roman this is the first failure of this blower during them selling it....
Guess im just unlucky.

Eek.. & you were gutted about the first leak too..

I think it's only fair to let you have access to my humble red 'warrior' as you called it, so you don't miss your car too much.

This is obviously on the condition it comes back as shiny & immaculate as yours. 8)

In all seriousness I'd be surprised if you didn't get great treatment. They know you're anal about stuff, it's within warranty, you're being pioneering & public.

As you say though, its one of those that may take a while..

yeah i was really gutted about the first one, think ive sorted that one :-) im looking forward to seeing how ess deal with this one..... im hoping they will just ship me a new unit immediatly, then i can drive to simpson and get the new one fitted, they can have my current unit and do waht they wish with it, all i know is, i definatly dont deserve to be out on this one and im certain ESS will come good, they always have in the past.

shame as well, i just want to enjoy my car and the new kit........ this is the first REAL issue ive got with the kit.

Beedub, sorry to hear you're having problems but thanks for posting - there is little info on these things so it's a useful addition to the forum.

Before anyone asks, no I'm not thinking about it.

Hope it's sorted soon.

Sorry to hear ur troubles with it,hope u get it fixed,as its something i will be doing to my 3.0i in the future,so be keen to know how u get it resolved :D

Sorry to hear about this teething issue with getting your Zed set up. Great to hear thet ESS sound like they have responded quickly and with the 'right' solution. That's the power of good customer service, small market and social media  Surprised they lay the blame at their UK installer so quickly.
