New rubber so needed a run out . . . .

Seems to have been raining and blowing for days now. I'd had new tyres fitted and wanted to get out for a run - I saw there might be a break on Friday so sent out a text but Dave and Mike were indisposed and Craig was at work.

No problem, Steph and I were looking forward to a day out and after all the heavy rain I thought the roads might be fairly clean - no chance . . .

Still able to enjoy the roads though and Steph and I headed out to the Northumberland coast on some of our favourite back roads and lanes

We'd decided to fit the new Eagles on the black winter tyre rims - they look particularly good when the Zed is filthy, which happened within a few miles! (The ///M size winter tyres had hit and rubbed the inner wheel arches when we hit depressions and braked hard on uneven roads so we went for 3.0si sizes - shame as I thought the ///M higher side wall looked much better).

Called at Craster as it's such a lovely little harbour with a very nice approach road

And some fabulous views of Dunstanburgh Castle

South of Craster we came across a mobile microfibre unit . . . took them an age to pass

It's an enjoyable drive along this road which follows the coastline but only offers a few views of the sea . . .

makes the views all the more enjoyable when they do open up.

There's some old railway architecture on this route

It's a fabulous road from Alnmouth to Warkworth, lots of medium speed twisties and one corkscrew - the new tyres were very quiet and instilled confidence despite the greasy conditions.

It's always an impressive sight seeing Warkworth at the end of this road

Rivers were very high due to the perpetual rain . . .

Steph wanted to do a bit of Christmas shopping in a shop she particularly likes in Warkworth and we had a cuppa and a hot chocolate before heading home early afternoon to avoid the forecasted heavy winds.

Really pleased with the GoodYear Eagles as usual; need a few more miles yet and the conditions meant we couldn't push them too much in any case but the ride was impressive and they were noticeably quiet. £433 fitted and balanced via Black Circles.

So jealous of you both,I was really looking forward to a run up the coast . The conditions look reasonable to test out the new rubber and when you come to wash the car it will be blow dried in the high winds forecast this weekend . Looks like a bit of a weather window on Sunday so I'm hoping to get out then .

The Zed is already pressure washed and then gone over with 'No Rinse Wash and Shine', the half cover's on and no doubt it's going to get drenched, blown about and filthy again over the weekend :(

Nevermind - goes better when it's clean

I've noticed Sunday is looking promising - get in touch of you fancy a run. :driving:

another great run there you are so lucky to live with those roads on your door step and fair play every chance you are out and about spot on

Tell me that's Australia . . . is it in the UK? :o

Great photo
Like me - it's in New Zealand.
Not my pic, but I've been stuck in a few mobs like that. Just gotta be patient, and pray there's no Aussie passengers to make endless sheep shagger jokes
Actually fewer and fewer sights like that now that half the country seems to have converted to foul smelling, effluent producing, water wasting dairy cows.

Nope - telecoms engineer/IT, but the country's everywhere around you here, and nothing beats getting the Zed out and enjoying the roads and scenery

Great to see you both out and about on the East Coast. The North West is a depressing place to be at the minute with storm after storm after storm. Hope to have a break in the rain for Sundays ScarTop meet - fingers crossed. Im having my remap and CDV delete done on Saturday, this work was postponed from last Saturday due to the horrendous storms. Anyway Paul, thanks for reminding us all how great it is to be driving top down in December  :driving:

p.s. I really like the black wheels look on your Zed

Who can get their Zed mucky the quickest?

And the winner is.............. Paulgs1000

Thanks for making a boring wet evening in front of the PC a lot more pleasant.

Particularly like the little Folly/Gate thingy house. :D

Weather is a little marginal for Sunday but I hope it holds for you  The weather's been awful on our side of the country as well but nothing like in the west - dreadful.

I'm interested to hear how your remap goes - I'll watch out for your posts.

I'm still not a fan of the black - looks better when the wheels get a bit dirty and the gloss dies down. Do like the lightness though and that's their saving grace and why we've put on our new tyres - that and the fact that Steph likes them . . . .

Thanks buzyg - but I may also be the one that has to clean off the muck the most as well :(

That folly marks the entrance to the lovely coastal village and harbour of Craster
