...there’s a tilt sensor to stop it ..
Interesting!

I've never heard of it nor found any.

Beleive me, there isn't any in the roof.

There exists a list of the 7 typically age related faults in our HowTo section!

Nobody want's to read it, everybody is searching for new, individual faults in the roof package. Really funny - or annoying!

From the US technical dealer briefing training course at launch…

Well, maybe that there is a misunderstanding due to my minor language knowledges.

A "precondition" is not identical to a not existing "tilt sensor".
That's my understanding.

Lateralinclinationofvehicle<11°
That is correct, but it's an information from the car's body via CAN and not from an additional "tilt" sensor.

Yo   u can be so pedantic at times!!

Problem with this is, that in future quotes of this post everybody will ask for the position of this sensational "tilt sensor".

So if the longitudinal dsc sensor senses tilt why is it not a tilt sensor? :tumbleweed:

Definitely not from or in the roof.
But up to now I could not identify how the car measures it's orientation. Maybe integrated in the DME or footwell modules.
Only the DWA (alarm system) has an integrated sensor against car-kidnpping by lifting it up.

So if the longitudinal dsc sensor sends tilt ...
[PEDANTIC]
It doesn't.
AFAIK it delivers an angle value of the car's position. It's the software IN the CTM, which decides to open or not.
[/PEDANTIC]

FWIW one time on tour parked on a steep hill the roof would not motor close..till it was level-ish..so definitely does happen

Of course, the angle/tilt is checked.
However, there's no sensor in the roof for this; instead, the angle is constantly transmitted from the car via the CAN bus.
