New radio?

Hi all, the power button for the business cd/radio failed last week, dealer wants to replace with whole new unit. I have an extended BMW warranty that covers this except for 100.00 pounds. Dealer also advised it will take some time as the computer software will need to be upgraded after fitting. Anyone had to do this before.

Never heard of the computer needing to be upgraded because of a new radio

I am sure they will install a refurb.

It only takes about 10 minutes to change the radio out.

Hi, Dealer said it could take up to 5 hours because of the computer software updates, he said it will check the system and upgrade all the software. He also said it will be a new radio at about 400.00 pounds without fitting.

As 2 Zero said it's a 10 minute job, cant see what software updates would effect radio operation.

Im also struggling to think of software that will need any updates. Dealer replaced my radio under warranty at the end of last year..mentioned nothing about coding.

It is easy to take out and replace 10 minutes would be generous for a dealer...

Lol sounds like the bmw dealer at chelmsford who wanted to charge me 5 hours labour to upgrade the DME software to fix my stuttering... a job that took ~30 minutes at a different local bmw dealer.

It doesnt have the newer i drive computers and each module can be reprogrammed in isolation from what I was told, the newer cars have a more windowsy type of system and the computer will then update all the systems which can take ages.

pah, that is nothing. My dealer wanted to upgrade the i-Drive software on my E53 X5. Would take a day to do it.

I was very impressed, as the E53 does not have i-Drive ...

HMMMM...does an 05 have a place to plug in an Ipod or mp3? If so where? That would be a BMW business radio.
