Your ipod should plug into the usb port and idrive should bring it up as a USB/ipod..depending on how mnay tracks/albums (it may take 10-15 minutes) then you should see the albums/tracks/artists/playlists and then use them in any order..artwork should be displayed if encoded and the random feature on idrive should work..

It appears that the reaon why your playing tracks in sequential order is due to how you set up your itunes /ipod sync see here..

Aerosmith and Adam Ant are easy to find, it's when I want to list to the Who it takes a while.

But it's the track listing that plays alphabetically.

The idrive is not getting some metadata to allow it to do its own indexing..logical way to test it is via an iPhone with some other music tracks..
 
Sounds like it’s got confused ..since I’ve plugged 5 different iPhones into mine via usb and Bluetooth it normally works ..

iPhone has to be unlocked via front screen initially and the music app started before connecting..
