New Purchase

@ Mr Tidy - Will check the Sound Generators, but the previous owner did say one had already been removed.

@ Vijay - Interior is clean, so far I can only fault the drivers bolster.

I've drove it straight down to Birmingham and into storage, its spending its first night next to a Lambo.
Think were in for some crap weather again, so probably wont see it for a couple of weeks.
I'll create another post of a obligatory new Z4 owner shopping list and would appreciate any tips of best places, prices for Matt Grills, Stubby Aerial, Springs vs Coilovers, Spacers etc...
But anyway I'm glad to have finally got one and look forward to some meet ups in the Spring/Summer.

Shame it is going into storage, but at least it has some good company!

That looks like Pearl Grey leather - I really like it (but I would say that). And at least your leather and stitching is all intact. I've read good things about Gliptone Liquid Leather, although I haven't needed to do my seats yet.

Getting 108s refurbed isn't cheap, unless you split them yourself - but that can be a world of pain if bolts strip or shear!

Mine had been refurbed a few years before I bought it. I ended up selling them while they still looked good and got some 295s. They're an E89 wheel, so they have different offsets which means the fronts sit 18mm further out and the rears 10mm further out - no need for spacers!

Anyway I hope the weather isn't too bad, then you can start your shopping list.

Well done - looks pretty good! Fog lights are £59 each at the moment on eBay if you don’t fancy the DIY refurb route.

Glad you got one Gus....hope you enjoy it. My Phoenix Yellow one will be for sale on here in the day or two. I'm sure we'll bump into each other at a meet or two.

Thanks Paul, no hard feelings. Your car ticked all the boxes but as you said I think Yellow is a Marmite thing, and my heart was always in a Grey or Blue.
Even a day after purchasing this Silver Grey one I still I think prefer the Montego Blue colour, hopefully I feel different once I've given it a good polish and wax.

If not, let me know 8)

So compiling a to do list, and I want to get the following two jobs done in the coming weeks.

Interested in tips on where to purchase and best price on the following kit.

1: Pierburg water Pump, is it advisable to change the thermostat and coolant expansion tank at the same time, if so what brand should I go for and the most reliable for these items.
Coolant, will any coolant do here. Stuff that I can pick up from GSF or ECP.

2: Suspension bushes, don't think I'm going to bother with Powerflex type as its road use car only.
Have found http://www.bandbcomponents.co.uk/ as a good source for Meyle HD and Lemforder items for wishbones, link rods, drop links, RTAB's and top mounts. Are these OK ???

PS: My local mechanic is quoting me £165 to change over the Water pump and stat.

Gus.

Never been any history of stats failing so not obliged to change it by any means. They are not the same as a conventional thermostat. I wouldn't change expansion tank on an Si either if there is no need to - tends to be the older pre-facelift tanks that go.

You will find the BMW coolant as cheap if not cheaper than Halfords so no reason not to use OEM. Otherwise, the correct coolant is G48 Glycol based. Any G48 is fine to use like the Comma Xstream G48.

Agree with your choices of bushes, both Meyle HD and Lemforder are good quality alternatives to OEM. I personally like Meyle HD stuff.

The coolant pump change should be a 2hr job absolute max so your indy is not too far off the mark if £80 an hour is his rate (bit high perhaps). Make sure he is aware of bleed procedure on N52 (it's automated, done on accelerator pedal)

Just thought with it being a 12yr old car with 81k miles, it may be worth while precautionary measure.

Where's the best place to source the water pump.

The thermostat isn't necessary and they don't tend to fail. The expansion tanks do. I'm not sure where the advice above has come from, as the part is identical on the facelift and pre-facelift and thus suffers the same problems. You're going to have the system drained and it's a £40 part, just get it done at the same time for peace of mind is my view.

The thermostats leak, as mine did. It's the gasket that fails, but whilst it's off, you might aswell replace the thermostat for what it costs.

So, BM Parts Store in Wolves has quoted me:

Pierburg water pump
OEM Thermostat...Stat is original equipment, so Behr/ mahle
Hose & Jubilee clips
For the above three items, £325.00.
Coolant expansion tank..........We do no supply Meyle, so Tank will be in Hella at £48.00, suppliers to BMW.
Above prices Include shipping, but not VAT, as we are not registered.
Anything else let me know..

So total of £538 for parts and fitting.

That looks pretty good.

But the age they go at seems quite variable! My 1st Coupe needed a new pump at 9 years and 60K miles, whereas my E91 325i made it to 12 years and 135K miles!

If you have access to other transport I wouldn't get the pump changed as a preventative measure - well I didn't anyway.

When the E91 pump died I had to use my Z4 - 1st world problems!

Yep I know its a big expense just to do as a precautionary measure, but knowing my luck it'll go whilst on a nice summers day cruise miles away from home and will ruin a perfectly good weekend, but then I guess so could any other component ie: Alternator etc...
