New purchase regrets ?

I experienced waves of disenchantment upon testing a 350z, as it was heavier than I had imagined and apparently less fun in the wet. The plastics were crude and the flywheel urgently needed replacement (and that recurred on several examples).

Another good car, albeit on paper, seemed to be the Opel GT. Sadly enough, it was all rattles and a crude manual roof (yes, its sexy looks made me think ROADSTER for a while :poke: ), cramped but too soft, which resulted in a turn-off package.

After three months of ownership, the only things I dislike about the Zed are the runflats (changing to my fav Vredesteins any day now) and the Hi-Fi stereo (I've always had Morel front speakers and just a big sub), but that'll get upgraded too. The ratting cupholders will go, and so will the misty fog lights. found it hard to get accustomed to the electric power steering, although I feel relieved since I don't have to inspect it for leaks. Ah, and there's no point having PDC sensors in a car the size of a shoe.

Of course, any car becomes too slow after a while, but that's no reason for ditching it. I feel comfortable in the coveted 6 sec territory, but - as usual - after three or four years I'll switch to something a notch faster. A unique sports coupe, with all the grunt and panache, fun and practical for daily driving.

The only minor niggle I have is the absence of a clunk when you close the doors - apart from that I just love the car :D

Gotta admit this disappointed me too. Most BMWs sound better than this, and have you shut the door on an Audi lately?

Also trying to get used to the manual shift, still haven't quite mastered it in the Z4 (though I don't drive it all the time, less than 3000km since purchase ~3mths ago).

That said, I've had slight doubts with my last three cars.

2007 Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo (245kw) -> 2009 XR6 Turbo (270kw) - More power, but went from all-the-fruit to pov-pack. (FYI the Falcon is a family sedan the size of a 5-series)

2009 XR6 Turbo -> Focus XR5 (ST in UK) - Much better to drive and sounded brilliant, but not as shove-in-the-back quick and drab grey interior.

XR5 -> BMW Z4 - A convertible at last, excellent stereo (made better with Mediabridge) and gorgeous with leather, heated seats, etc., but spine-crushing ride (Bridgestone RFT on 17s).

Interesting topic guys! Well I have had my zed two weeks today! And it has not disappointed me, it has been exactly what I expected! My only complaint Would be the rft oh dear how are these legal the ride can be awful at times depending on the road you are on! These will be getting replaced within the next two weeks!
I appreciate having a sports car that can happily manage 30mpg (mines a 3.0) and I like having some modern technology like heated leather memory seats, heated mirrors electric hood etc! My previous car (TVR Chimaera) had none of these so I am enjoining these little touches at the mo! The zed is a fantastic car but for me it does lack the excitement and drama that came from the TVR but then it does not disappoint or cost me like the TVR did hence the choice of changing to a zed!

I've had mine for 2yrs now and have never had a car that i love so much that is also so frustrating at the same time.

Initial reaction after picking it up from Blackburn and driving back to Glasgow (in the rain) was omg, what have i done!

ditching runflats and hunter alignment sorted the weird back-end issues. The ride is still fairly poor on the crapy roads in the UK, rattles and squeeks from the dash that i wish i could afford to get fixed, 3rd bmw, 3rd airbag warning light :headbang:

I love the 3.0 engine, i love the fact that you can work on it yourself. Done my own servicing, replaced discs and pads all-round. Absolutely adore the styling - still turn round to have a look when parked in car parks

do i regret buying - NO! :driving:

After having a Z3 last year, and then going on to a TT, there are definitly no regrets with the Z4.

So glad to be in open top driving again and cant wait to take it on a nice tour of Europe.

Even after a few issues after buying from AUC dealer, they have all been rectified now and it couldnt be better.

Seeing as we tend to only do about 3k miles a year in our fun car, I think this one will be a keeper for a little while yet. (Coming from someone who keeps a car on average 6 months or less)

Totally overwhelmed from when I picked it up a few weeks ago but then yesterday got a comment that "it's quite blokey really" being quite a girly girl I'm not sure how I feel about this...

The car suits almost every woman I have seen driving one - ignore, then destroy the next girly car you are next to at the lights. Even girly girls like to have some fun in their cars in my experience

Hi all-
yes its very strange- something about the z4 does this- when I used to drive Triumph sports cars (yes I know - it dates me :) ) - there was none of this feeling (when they were working!) but I think this particular car sort of engenders some unrealistic expectations-then when you get it (tinny doors- prone to plastic trim squeaks etc)...took me a little while to forget these 'niggles' and - appreciate the few pounds saved by the light doors- ignore the squeaks and drive it in a more 'point and squirt' fashion- now I love it!!
