New purchase - Advice

The lower powered B48 engines in other installations have different pistons / internals than the higher power variants and some have had piston issues when mapped, so be careful if going that route. No doubt the G29 is the same, but check on realoem to be sure.

Yes you’re correct unlike the N20 fitted to the 18i/20i/28i E89 which did have identical internal components the B48 does have different piston compression ratios …I think for a competent tuner this would not be problematic..hence my focus on one with a dyno to verify / check their tuning..

Hmm, I just checked realoem and they seem to have the same short engines, pistons, the lot! Looking at the G20 forums, it seems BMW did switch to using the same motors for the 3 series too.

Pretty cool :)

I wish they wouldn’t keep iterating that engine…so yes same piston in 30i and 30i in the G29….well if was in 2019..

Wow , excellent research from you guys & so technical really appreciated , dr John I’m off to test drive the 2 litre tomorrow, with all packs , met sapphire Black with the red leathers , I’ll keep you updated & hopefully negotiate a good deal .many thanks

Good luck today :driving:

Met a couple today who came up and asked me if the M40i was mine. They asked how it was performance wise etc. they were looking to get into a G29 from an F-Type. Don’t really know much about F-Types but they said theirs is a 2 litre turbo (circa 300 hp I think he said) and were extremely disappointed with both the 20i and 30i G29. They’ve got a test drive if an M40i tomorrow and think it’ll be much closer to the F-Type In performance stakes and if so will buy. HTH’s

Were they psychopaths with extraordinary large right feet? :tumbleweed: :driving: :driving:

Think the lower power F type is circa 298hp, the 30i is only 40hp down on that and is a bit lighter so there shouldn't be a massive difference in acceleration.

Of course, the build quality of the Jag will make it feel as if you're going a lot faster........

TBH Scubs, I’ve not driven either 4 pot G29 nor the Jag so taking them completely at their word. It was actually his Mrs that was complaining about it

She said the 0-60mph time of the car is too quick before she can feel it's 60 already
