New purchase - Advice

Evening

Looking to purchase G29 - budget will allow 2&3 litre variant .

Currently own the e85 2.5 , for last two half years & thoroughly enjoy ; not used daily - this is taken care of by my X6 .

However thinking of changing to G29 as my daily everyday car & wanted your thoughts and advice on running one of these ?

I’ve owned all across the range during my motoring life ; but not lived with a roadster on a daily basis .

All advice welcome
 
A G29 is so modern and comfortable that you could live with it everyday. But I don’t want my Z4 to be comfortable and an everyday car which is why I have an E85 :poke:
 
That makes sense - a G29 would definitely be a more fun daily than an X6!

Personally I'd want a 3 litre because I've become addicted to straight 6 petrol BMWs, but then your E85 has one of those.

Hopefully a G29 owner will be able to offer some insight into using one as a daily.
 
Apologies for anyone who has seen this comment I made in an FB M40i group, but this is the same question...

I use mine as my main car, but I don't have to commute so it mainly gets driven for fun, but also supermarket trips etc.. I've even loaded it up with tents and other camping gear to take it to a festival. You will be surprised how much stuff you get in it. So I would say it's about as practical as it can be for a 2-seater roadster. It's also got that delightful Jekyll and Hyde character. You can mooch about in Comfort/Adaptive mode, and then flick it in to Sport Plus / manual gear shift when your mood and the roads allow you to drive hard.
 
A rear-wheel drive sports car is great in the Summer but a liability in the Winter. Also of no use to carry anything to the dump!

The M40i has a LSD plus advanced traction / stability control..with a set of all season tyres fitted it would leave a SUV with summer tyres miles behind ! :thumbsup: :driving:

Is the LSD only available on the M40i. ?
 
Can't speak specifically about the g29 as we have an e89. My daily and use for most things is also an x6 with the e89 being used for fun mostly.
If it came down to us only having one car, the x6 would stay and the e89 would go.

The G29 is a very practical car. More accessible boot space than the E85 and E89's I have owned. Just spent a week in Cornwall and it accomodated all our luggage and my wife doesn't travel lightly. They are very comfortable pottering around town or pushing on where the speed limit allows. Also great cabin in my opinion.
 
Thanks for all your thoughts I’ve already test driven the 255bhp - 2litre
There’s also a 195bhp same money - but just has all Tech packs

My other dilemma is having always had 6cylinder Beamers - is it worth saving & and or adding too - and getting the M40i

Are there big differences - other than the obvious £4/5k additional cost ?

This wouldn't even be a question in my book, 6 cylinders all day every day!
 
If you will habitually use the power of the 6 cylinder, go for it. If not the 30i is more than enough for everyday use.
I work for a BMW dealership and often drive M cars, very rarely do I use them anywhere near their capacities.

Off to the dump on Tuesday, carries loads of stuff especially if its a fine dry day with the roof down. This time its a fireplace and granite hearth to make room for the new one. Should have some room for some old pieces of wood and a bag of garden leaves :D
