New project...

As per my items for sale thread, my e85 is sadly no longer with us, but keen to stay in a Z4, I've taken a punt on a 2014 Valencia Orange e89 M Sport 20i with 48k on the clock.

The good... it looks like this, I absolutely love it! Interior is mint too :)

The bad...

It's basically sat and done nothing for 3-4 years with the previous owner, so today is in for a major service and fingers crossed for no major issues.

Pending any news from the garage, the main issue is the paintwork - it had been left in a car port or something similar, so there is some serious sun damage to large parts of the paintwork. Seeing a few people tomorrow to see what can be done, but preparing myself for it needing at least a partial respray.

So depending on what money needs to be spent there, next priority is getting the power up with a remap and just generally showing it some love, as it seems to have been lacking from who had it before

VO is such a nice colour.....not so much with the roof issues, though. :o
I wonder how that happened? Looks like someone has spilled something nasty on it then rubbed it off with a brillo pad!
At least the panel (s) can be removed fairly easily to respray them.

Really love VO on a Zed, hope there are no major mechanical issues and that the paint can be done quickly and at a reasonable cost.

Why was it parked up for such a long period of time - seems a waste

That's a stunning colour so I hope you can get the paint sorted.

A few people seem to have gone for a black roof so that could be an option if it needs paint anyway.

Just hope you can keep enough back for a remap!

thought the black roof was from the factory but a good shout though as probably easier to paint than VO, how about a Carbon weave like an M3 / M4

All I was told it was parked up under cover for 'personal reasons'.. perhaps under some sort of glass or plastic roof causing sunlight damage?

Back from service and nothing too major! Replaced all fluids and filters etc, and just needs a new ancillary belt and some tyres.. so pretty happy with that! Seeing a couple of paint people tomorrow :)

Don’t forget the battery, that probably needs changing, definitely if it’s the original.

I like either but as you say each to their own

I like a bit of a barn find or car port find  Is it just the roof paint work thats damaged?

Unfortunately its bonnet and boot too.. anything that points up basically  The sides look great!

Great colour and the fact I owned a VO for 7 years does not mean I am biased.

Bite the bullet and go for the full respray.

Just an idea.....
As yours is a 2014, then it's still within the manufacturers body/paint warranty, so it's definitely worth a try and see what they say. If they agree to cover it then you will get a BMW repair in the original VO paint, if they refuse then you've only lost some time.
Best of luck either way

Thanks man, always worth a try! Heading to a dealer tomorrow anyway so I'll have a word with them

I agree it's worth a try, but I will bet 10 years mortgage payments it won't be successful. :)

One panel you may get away with it but on three panels they will says it vandalism or neglect, good luck though worth a quick question.

So a quick update.. car is booked in for a full wrap in a couple of weeks :)

So re the paint problems, multiple places basically suggested a full respray rather than tackling individual panels but after speaking to a few wrapping places too, thats what I've gone for instead. Using 3M Fiery Orange it should be pretty close to original Valencia - comes with a good warranty and obviously a huge chunk cheaper than paint.

Top surface of the paint is all fine, so vinyl should still affix fine and it won't cause any further damage incase I do want to sort a respray much further down the line.

Pics incoming mid July 8)
