New PM then?

Given that the previous two conservative prime ministers were ousted by their own parties MP’s and that the Conservative party has a long history of dumping their governing leader, prey tell me who was the last labour prime minister to suffer this fate? History is really not on your side here, so stop the express/mail scare tactics
Different world, though, since that 'new labour' t*at (I can't say his name as I hate him so much). The media bring down PMs mid-term nowadays. The whole of Whitelhall is shite scared of the media. I'm surprised that Laura Kuenssberg isn't the new PM. She seems to have more power than all of them.

Oh god help us all,as she has said she saw her as a role model
Love her or loathe her, Maggie was the best PM by a country mile we have had in my life time. She was respected or feared by most world leaders. She gave millions of people a very cheap way of getting on the property ladder.....I won't go on.... :D

Yes I voted for her as she got us out of the continuous strikes and blackout problems but she lost the plot later on and had to go. Whats that they say about absolute power corrupts absolutely? It's happening in other parts of the world, for gods sake not here as well please.

Thought I'd answer both at the same time, the difference between Thatcher and Blair (and I voted for both), Blair saw the writing on the wall after winning his third election, whereas Thatcher didn't. After ten years of power you're burnt out, have run out of ideas and jaded by power. Thatcher did much good for the country, but also did much harm, the decimation of our industry in favour of a service economy was criminal.

I get why people hate Blair, they believe he lied to Government and the public over WMD's in Iraq and thus the war, but were then happy to vote for Boris, even though they new he was a compulsive liar, go figure :headbang:

Did Blair lie? People forget that the US Government supported Iraq after the Islamic revolution in Iran and the conflict thereafter, who do you think sold Iraq the WMD's in the first place, you think they had the infrastructure to produce them themselves. :poke:

Sorry don't agree with the first bit. For me, the unions had killed our industry way before Maggie came along. She just had to deal with it.

That's not why I hate the man (can't say his name, it makes me bilious). The fact that he and his cronies (Campbell mostly) made up a new type of political party just to get into power, bankrupted our Country even though the economy was strong, invented many 'stealth taxes' to pull the wool over the public's eyes, employed thousands of extra people in the public sector so it looked good.......I won't go on.... :D

I used to quite like politics. I couldn't give two shites anymore.

Tax Revenue at the end of the Blair era was 25.8% of GDP, GDP in 2007 was £1,931 Billion = £498 Billion and Government Debt was 40.7% = £785 Billion
Tax in 2019 (thus ignoring the borrowing due to COVID) was 24.9% of GDP, and GDP = £2,255 Billion = £561 Billion and Government Debt was 84.4% = £1,903 Billion

And then of course, NHS waiting lists are now at a 14 year high, and have been getting worse ever since the conservatives took power in 2010

So yeah what have the conservatives done for you lately, well since 2016 to be honest.

They kept a lot of people alive by coming out of the EU and doing our own thing with vaccines. Oh and they supported thousands of businesses and millions of people during COVID through furlough. Not much really :poke:

yet the highest death rate in Europe, but I will concede the furlough did help...
....the eat out to help out though
...and now we've got Rees-Smog in charge of Business, Energy and Industry :headbang:
...and Brexit, that's going so well isn't it :poke:

Something that made me laugh last week was the brewery championed by Government for exports, was ruing the export burden as a result of "the deal" that Boris did, having seen sales plummet from £600K per year to just £2k.

They've done a brilliant job with increasing food banks from 10 when they came into power to now over 3000, what a fantastic expansion programme

As far as food banks is concerned I suggest you have a very close look at The Trussell Trust who are behind many (Not all but the majority) They are making a fortune out of every one the help set up with their CEO on more than the PM. Expansion is their business plan. Many local authorities are refusing to work with them now.

What was that old phrase "Build it and they will come"

yet the highest death rate in Europe,
That depends on where you get your information from and when you got it.

You must take into account how the deaths are recorded in different countries, for instance the UK recorded it as a Covid related death if you died and had had a positive test within the previous 28 days. So if you caught Covid and recovered with no ill effects whatsoever, but 3 weeks later were run over by a bus, your death would have been recorded as a Covid related death. Before being admitted into hospital, all were given a Covid test. If positive and you then subsequently died of a heart attack it was recorded as a Covid related death because Covid was mentioned on your death on your death certificate even if it wasn't the primary cause. Crazy but true and resulted in vastly inflated figures.

Apologies to all because don't want to sir up the Covid arguments again as some previous contributors have and been correctly chastised for it. So now shutting up on the subject. Would still like to say to Liz, Go for it girl and prove people wrong.

Whats a real old phrase.. "Let them eat cake" of course that was Royalty referencing the starving masses, much like what we have today (subbing the royalty for the Conservative party) and not a cheesy quote from a Hollywood scipt about Kevin Costner building a baseball diamond for ghosts
