New Pads, Brakes Blead - but - spongy pedal

Hi

I replaced all of my pads today and also bled the brakes.
I have read the other posts and ensured the fluid didnt go below MIN

My procedure was as follows:

1) Brake reservoir cap unscrewed
2) Cracked blead nipple on passenger rear wheel, attached a pipe from a bottle which had a little fluid in already - to ensure no air got in
3) friend pumped the brake around 20 times and i saw fluid go through the system, reservoir went down and bottle filled up
4) I had my friend pump and hold on the last pump and then i re-did the blead nipple back up

Copied this for the rest of the corners, going to drivers rear, passenger and then finally driver side.

Brakes are 100%, but the pedal is spongy. It doesn't go to the floor but i though it would be super sharp.
ive done around 20 miles upto now...

what did i do wrong?

The reservoir has two compartments, you sure the brake one never reduced the level?
 
Might sound silly, but are all the pads seated correctly? As in absolutely flush against the disc?
 
New pads not yet bedded into the discs giving slight movement and you probably let some air in at some stage.

Bed the pads then if no difference bleed them again.
 
I have bled brakes many times over the years .The way i do it is ,make sure the the level is near the top in the m/c,have someone pump the brake pedal say 10 times ,tell them to stop pumping and keep pressure on the pedal.You then open the bleed nipple and release the air/fluid.Tell the person on the pedal to keep it down and not to pump until you have closed the brake nipple. Bleed each wheel till there is no air coming out all the time keeping a check on the brake fluid level in the m/c.Starting at the wheel furthest from the m/c.
 
I use a vacuum brake bleeder, not expensive (but you also need a compressor).

Connect to the bleed nipple, build up the vaccum, and it sucks the fluid all the way through without pumping the pedal.
Because of the way it works its dead easy to completly change and refresh the entire brake oil system, you just keep poring oil into the chamber keeping it full during the process.

A piece of kit that was well worth buying. :D
