New Owner with tire (tyre) ?s

I just purchased a (new to me) 2005 z4 e85. The tires on it are:
front Hankook Ventus 225/45z R18
rear Bridgestone 225/40 RF18
Tramlining is terrible. I suspect the rear RF tires contribute to this but also wonder if tire size could come into play also. I found that the prior owner increased tire aspect from 35 to 40 on the rear and 40 to 45 on the front.

I am brand new on this forum and a first time BMW owner. Please be gentle. This is my old age toy.... :P All input and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Hi and welcome ! Your 18" tyres should be 225/40 front and 255/35 rear providing you have a staggered set of wheels i.e 8j front and 8.5j rear. Get rid of the run flats and fit some quality non-run flat tyres and you will be amazed at the transformation in your car.

I did plan on replacing the rear RF tires. Everything I have been able to find indicates that they tramline a bunch. Just curious about what others have experienced by increasing the aspect ratio as indicated. In order to obtain proper handling, do I need to go back to OEM tire size with non-RF tires? Or, will I be OK just replacing the rears with the same size that are currently installed (225/40s) with non-RFs? I do have the OEM offset wheels. What about going to 225/45s on the rear? That would give me the same size all around. Anyone tried that? Would that produce issues with the computer system? Again, I'm new here and groping in the darkness of my ignorance.

The difference between 255 and 225 is 30mm. That's over an inch less width (and grip !) on the rear of a rear wheel drive car. I would fit 255 on the rear. You already have staggered 8J and 8.5J wheels for a reason. If you are looking for a little more comfort then you could increase the aspect ratio to 45 or more if you want, possibly at the expense of handling. I would definitely fit OEM widths front/rear.
