New owner - where to start?

I work in IT, this is entirely what i expected tbh. Do you get a choice of when to apply the updates or do they just happen? As long as they dont brick the car, thats fine tho.
Go to the privacy settings and you can choose there everything. You can disable automatic app updates, disable software update requests, map updates, traffic, etc. I personally hated that BMW meddled in my car software and apps were disappearing or changing, so I disabled everything except online traffic.

Regarding wind deflector: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=124730&start=18
Yes you can skip Windschott (54 34 7 457 891) £110 x2.

You will have to put German VAT on top of that
True but that wouldnt put it near the £500 noted above. The extra parts needed do increase that price though so i expect its probably not far of that once its all said and done.
Don't forget the the plastic surround's you can get them from BMW £26/27 each. Part No. 51467459683/ 51467459684 Easy to fit you should do it in less than an hour. Don't bother with the little ones. I think they are just a waste of money

Dr, John said. I wouldn’t touch the clear ones, as an aerospace engineer I would say that the lack of ventilation to let the air flow through would render it useless and could only lead to buffeting and actually make wind effects worse. OK, they look pretty cool, depends on your priorities 8)
I can tell you now there is no problem with these and I am no aerospace engineer I am just a practical man and there is NO lack of ventilation and No buffeting :poke:

I imagine that the mesh lets some lower pressure air through, where a solid glass version wouldnt. I think thats the ventilation hes talking about.

Either way, I will see how it goes without, and then investigate options later.

These are the required parts and prices posted elsewhere which adds to £469. Though this was from 2019.
[1] Wind Deflector (54 34 9 481 141) £197
[2] Windschott (54 34 7 457 891) £110 x2
[3] Trim roll b (51 46 7 459 683) £26
[3] Trim roll b (51 46 7 459 684) £26

Yes i already found several places selling them, but I would think you probably dont need the "windschott" (especially not at £220 for that tiny bit of mesh/plastic) as thats just the bit that fills the hoop and that is mostly blocked by the seat.

Either way, its something for after ive got used the car for a bit.

I don't know about G29s but I suspect the wind deflector works in the same way as on the E89. My E89 came without one so I got the large central deflector of flea bay used but like new and fitted the mounting brackets directly to my original hoop covers, when I removed the covers I could see where the holes should be for mounting the brackets for the wind deflector so made holes in the covers and saved myself a few quid not having to buy some new hoops, chances are this is the same on the G29.

As for the 'windschott' the two tiny little ones by the headrests these are crazy stupid money from BMW and for a couple of years I run my car without them, even second hand most breakers wanted stupid money for them so I bided my time and waited for the right opportunity and eventually got some for a very reasonable price, although right now getting second hand bits for a G29 might be a bit hard but the moral of the story is that these little deflectors don't do anything, I have not noticed any difference between when I didn't have them and now that I do. I suspected this would be the case but I got them to finish off the looks.

Hoop covers were only £26 each new from BMW. I don't think you can fit main part without them. You need to slide wind deflector into the plastic rail.
