Having just purchased a Z4 3l 03 reg what mods do you guys recommend? Would like to get it back to showroom condition but looking at some subtle mods like upgrading the lights bulbs with led ones ie rear number plate and just read about how some of guys have drilled holes up through the exhaust tail pipes to give a slight better Sound which I like the idea of. Any other popular mods?

Search for 'Throttle adaption reset' free performance :driving:

Also unbolt your DISA valve (again search on the forum) and replace if there is any wear to restore performance and as preventative maintained.

Essential ones for me are:

Non runflats.
Eibach springs.
Clear light conversion all round.
Cruise control.
Multi function sport wheel.
Maybe sport seats, although I haven't done that so wouldn't know. They're not very comfortable according to some.

You really need to give us the full spec of the car for hints and tips on what can be done.

Ditch the runflats if it has them. This will honestly make it seem like a different car.
Door Speakers if it doesn't have any.
Stubby
Spacers
New Door pulls if they're scratched.
New carpets if they're looking old and worn out.

1st thing to do is give it a good clean and then clean it again. After that clean it again. Then get any scratches / stone chips dealt with.

Clean and re proof the roof.

Get any suspension issues fixed. New Bushes too if it needs them.

Also buy one of the cables along with the CD that has the software for identifying any faults. After that get any faults fixed. I got mine here... http://www.bcables.com/

Get the original spec of the car here... http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

Thanks guys for the replies. Previous owner already got rid of run flat tyres so happy about that as Iv heard they can give the car a harsh ride.
Stubby aerial? Current one is black and has a twisted look.
Not looking into changing any interior bits as happy with the look but some new floor mats would look nice.

ATM watching the clock as I have to wait til 7pm tonight to collect the car and just can't wait!
I will, post some pics up tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Love the grey colour on the Z4 and the dark red leather matches it nicely. It has the factory satnav and what is unusual is the roof is a light olive green.
Whole car needs a proper clean especially the roof.

It has a button for folding the door mirrors up can not this function be done by the key remote on locking it?

Nice mate.

The roof was originally grey and had faded into green over time. Mine done the same, so I dyed it with renovo reviver. Wish i hadn't now as it looks rubbish.

So the roof was originally grey? I will give it a good clean will look up how to in the detailing section as Iv only cleaned vinyl roofs before the material on the Z4 I'm guessing is mohair so will need a more gentle clean?

Also I wish to add that have had many cars over the years this being my first bmw and I'm very impressed with the build quality so far.

No not programmable via i-bus it is a stand alone local circuit afaik.
Welcome to the forum!

You have nav so you should add an Intravee II
LED sidelight bulbs
LED fogs
Stubby
MFSW
Spacers 10mm front 15mm rear

You could also consider removing the foam from your sound generator as many do though I put mine back after realising how weird it sounded.

Looking good!

Clean the roof. With the roof going that colour you should maybe tackle the roof drains as there's a possibility that if the roof has been neglected then the drains have been neglected too. Check on here for the, "How To" on the roof drains.
Clean the car.
Clean the wheels.
Sort out any mechanical issues. I'd be more concerned about the mechanics than the cosmetics.
Sort out any scratches etc on the bodywork.
Sort out the issues with the Gingerness of the headlights and rear lights.
MFSW.
White brake light on the boot.

Is it or was it a Forum car?

Unaware if it previously was a forum car for a twelve year old car it has been looked after pretty well previous owner had it as a weekend car but hardly used it and it sat outside all that time near trees etc.

Mechanicals seem all good at the mo as serviced recently and new mot with no advisories but I plan on getting it to a bmw garage and get it health checked for peace of mind.
There are a few dints and scratches I plan on sorting also the alloys need a refurb badly, not sure how hard or cost wise to get these alloys refurbed as there split rims :-/

What does MFSW mean?

Paul

Cheap ones you have to do:
Full circle rear light mod
Sound generator mod

Other than that:
Gaptech RCH+
Royal steering wheels retrim
LED fog lights, side lights, interior lights

If it's been sitting near or under trees then a deep clean of the paintwork will be required to remove any tree sap or stains. Worthwhile doing it anyway!

Drains should be looked at too ASAP due to the leaves from the trees possibly blocking the drains.

What's the mileage?

Wheel refurb can be done. Look into 108 Split Rim Refurb costs.

I had a BMW Pre delivery check done on mine before I bought it. Worth the peace of mind!
