Hi there, my names Kevin im from Ontario Canada, managed to get an MC in august, its parked for the winter now hahah unfortunately

I drive with Sport OFF and traction ON... i find if i start getting excited especially in the middle of a corner to the exit, the traction control is so thick I feel as though the car might as well be stoped, i get zero throttle response intill the car straightens out

I also find that when im at the brakes limits while heel-and-toeing down the gears, i dont know if its the abs or stability control or a mix of both, a certain sound fills the car and muzzles the engine, it seems race inspired down shifts are not enjoyed by the car haha

Is there a way to turn every driver aid off? and what exactly does the sport button do?

thanks,

Kevin.

Hi Kevin & Welcome =)

Sport sharpens the throttle response on an M car (it does other stuff on an non-m). You'll get used to the difference, for me it just makes driving slowly around town more difficult and adds to confidence when I'm about to tear off and embarass someone.

If you press the DSC button it will turn everything off (except ABS), indicated by the light on the Rev Counter being on permanently. I seem to have to hold it down for a few milliseconds rather than just tap it, but you'll definitely notice the difference.

My advice would be to drive it with it off for a while and notice the difference, although you obviously don't want to be doing this in slippery weather as it can be a wonderful handful with no robots to keep you on the road.

Damn, I think i might have to go for a drive now =)

hi and welcome, I was too not thrilled with how much the dsc nannies the power, i was hesitant to switch it off though as i remember my z3m being very twitchy at the rear, this was more because of the old semi trailing arm suspension on that car. the z4m is a different beast with a much more modern set up. i now switch off the dsc unless things are really greasy, the rear end on the z4 is really planted and the M electronic diff a masterpiece , yes it scrabbles for grip but then gets the power down and just takes off, it doesnt imo make it scary to drive or unsafe, you need to respect it but doesmt seem to get unsettled and jump out with little warning as in the 3m. a thrilling drive awaits you at the end of your canadian winter. enjoy
