Hi All,

After a few initial threads, I've finally picked up my new car - 56 plate Z4M Roadster, Interlagos blue and standard. New tyres all the way around, unmarked alloys and paint work, as well as a pretty immaculate interior (small amount of in and out wear on the driver side bolster). Only dealer photos until I give it a decent wash when I'm home over Xmas. Fantastic drive back from Norwich with my father, roof down most of the way and sunset + AWAKs fly over was utterly incredible!

A few initial questions;

- I have blanks where the cup holders should be - only really need the driver's side for my phone/satnav holder; are these as simple as they seem to fit? And is eBay the best bet?
- I was also expecting to have the Aux ashtray, but the car was not worth losing over this not being present - I've noted it's an easy OEM part to retro fit, but wondered again on the best place to buy?

Thanks for any help on the above! Also thanks to Mr Wilks and ITAG for Winter Tyre and Gruppe M help/purchases respectively! Thanks gents!

Welcome, looks lovely. In mine the aux input is not in the ashtray but almost underneath the far right ventilation knob, have a quick look there. Otherwise I can't imagine it's difficult to retrofit as you say.

Thanks all!

Interesting suggestion actually Tom, I'd just presumed this was the OEM placement, but perhaps there were others. I'll have a check. If not, it looks as though BMW or the US are the only places for the OEM kit these days!!

Welcome!

Lovely car - looks fantastic.

AUX is sometimes down under the control but I think these were 07 onwards that were fitted as standard. Our ///M doesn't have one and neither does my Si and they're both 56.

If not, it's a fairly simple fit (although not done it myself) and there's a guide in the 'how to' section.

Glad you're happy with your new car! Enjoy every second!

On my 3.0si the aux is lower left of the steering wheel above the central console buttons - you have to feel or look under the dash to see it.

Great looking Zed - love the colour.

:driving:

cup holders on ebay if you strike lucky, otherwise any BMW dealer. I think a few even bought via dealers on ebay.

regarding aux, check the glove box as well, that where BMW retrofitted mine. I knew it was there but even so still took me a while to find. Wasn't standard until 2007 model year though.

Well that was a great shout, srhutch - what a helpful chap you've been thus far, thank you! Both sides and facia plates ordered from Hull BMW on eBay! Also bought the passenger side storage net while I was browsing!

Another brief question - the car has a very distinct chain sound when in the driving seat, which changes pitch in various gears and speeds. It does sound like what I understand is Vanos and doesn't sound awful/crunchy/metallic, just quite audibly different to any previous car when driving. On start up from cold and under the bonnet it sounds sweet as a nut - it's just weird and by my right leg when driving, so a little un-nerving...!

Without a video, I know it's hard to say yay or nay, but presume if Vanos was going it'd sound pretty atrocious like the below link?

Looks like that has a super charger on it which generates noise so not a good comparison. But that one doesn't sound good.

Best if you post up a video of yours.

Thanks chap! I had a similar note from Ian aka ITAG about the seller. He worried me a bit as he lied on a few details and was extremely pushy... but the car looks to be great!
