New owner- non standard exhaust?

Hi All,

After a few posts on here with some general Z4M questions where the responses have been very useful, i am now the proud owner of a '57 Z4M coupe.

13k miles, satnav, bluetooth, cruise control, logic 7 stereo, heated seats, etc in Interlagos blue with champagne leather interior, carbon trim and most importantly for me, isofix and airbag disable :)

I have a 4 month old son and my previous car was a Honda S2000 in which i couldn't disable the airbag and therefore couldn't fit a rear facing child seat. Consequently i was able to pursuade my wife that a Z4MC was required so that i could carry our little boy around in my car :D

After looking at a few dealer cars where retrofiting the airbag disable switch would have been part of the deal, i found this car privately with it fitted as an option from new.

However, i only drove one other Z4MC before this one. This car drives perfectly (though the gearbox is considerably more notchy than my old S2000 but then that's not surprising) but there is a fair bit of straight 6 woofle from the exhaust :)

I don't remember the other one i drove being this noisy so i'm wondering if the car i've bought may have a non standard exhaust. Its certainly not an unpleasant noise and its definitely not an blowing exhaust or a fault or some kind. Is a fair bit of straight 6 noise in normal driving (ie not when pushing on) normal for these cars? Are aftermarket exhausts commonly available and is there any way i can check if mine is standard or not?

The thing that makes me suspicious of the exhaust is that the exhaust tips are highly polished. Either the previous owner was fastidious with the autosol metal polish or something isn't standard.

Hi, nice spec on your car!

Many owners do clean the tips so they shine; I'll be taking a Dremel to mine to get them sparkling too...

Not noticed any unusual noise to mine, maybe you could compare with any other nearby Z4M owners? If the tips don't have any writing on them and they look like cut-off shiny pipes rather than have 'rolled' edges, I'd guess they're standard.

If you can see hanging from the back what can only be described as two quite large bollocks then it's the stock one.

For example gookah's, car from this thread has the stock exhausts http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=25142

Looks stock to me.... however I'm happy to be proved wrong.

My car certainly has the large bollocks :)

It looks like i have the standard exhaust. I'm getting used to the noise now. I think its just noisier than i'm used to.

and it is a lovely noise..... :D
