New Owner. Looking for tips and advice.

What's up guys. New owner to the platform. i'm about 80% done restoring a 2003 3.0i with the SMG transmission. Suspension in the front rattles, top doesn't work automatically. Doors don't unlock with the push of the button, though i hear the actuator, neither door unlocks. The handle on the center storage is broken, can't figure out how to open the thing. And i believe i need motor mounts. That's pretty much all i have left to do.

My questions is, performance parts. Should i do an exhaust, and an intake on the car? Does it make sound that much better? Which exhaust, which intake?

What is your preferred source for parts online for this platform?
Are the front lip/splitter protectors worth putting on? I've never had a car with them. But 1 minute after picking my car up from paint, i scraped the crap out of the front bumper cover.

Any other info would be appreciated. Attached is a picture of the car.

Welcome to the forum with your smart Z4.

Sorry I can't help with your locking issues but hopefully someone will be able to.

Exhaust mods are a matter of personal taste, but the 3 litre cars have a sound generator that directs some induction noise into the cabin. It has a piece of foam at each end and you can simply remove one or both for a bit more volume. https://z4-forum.com/threads/sound-generator-modification.15035/page-11#post-868676

No suggestions for parts sources as I'm in the UK but if yours is a stick shift it's worth removing the Clutch Delay Valve to improve clutch actuation. There are plenty of guides online.

BTW that's quite a collection of cars you have!

I appreciate the reply. Thank you for the info! The car has the SMG tranny.

Yeah, i like my cars! Love 90's cars. And they were relatively inexpensive to buy, and very inexpensive in taxes and to insure, so it works out! They're all drivers too. None are project cars.

What is the whining sound when i unlock the car? it's like a whizzing sound. Or when i open the door. It's like something kicks on.

For repair of the GM5 in the US check out www.bmwgm5.com

I buy parts from FCP Euro and ECS Tuning both have lifetime warranties on all parts. I also buy from eBay.
