New owner logbook

When I got my car on 17th March the dealer completed a form online to register it in my name.

Should he still return anything to DVLA, or is that online form all that is needed?

I'm asking as it's been 3 weeks and I've had nothing from DVLA, i.e. new log book.

I know it can take weeks (4-6 etc), so probably nothing to worry about, but this dealer has screwed up with every step of the deal that I think if they are meant to do something, then they haven't.

The little green slip he gave me says that if I haven't had the logbook in 4 weeks then I can send it with a form and they will get one sent to me, but I'm just wondering if the dealer has done what they were meant to?

Got mine back if I remember correctly after about 5/6 days however suppose new car Reg in March may slow the things down a bit

My experience is that the new V5 arrives within 5 days of the on-line transfer, it is now extremely fast. Something has gone wrong, either the on-line process was interrupted or your new doc has gone astray in the post. I would give DVLA a call and ask them, you have the new owner slip which is enough to get them on the case.

Don’t leave it too long he dvla charged my son to get log book for a car he had purchased because he had left it for a couple of months

Yeah, a week or so is what I was thinking.

Nothing has gone smooth with this purchase.....bought on 17 March....they didnt clear the finance on the part ex, resulting in BMWFS taking the April payment as they knew no different! Got that sorted after shouting at dealer, should be getting refund from BMWFS. They royaly fooked up the brakes telling me they’d had new discs and pads all round! No they hadn’t....rear discs had been skimmed and painted and the paint slung onto disc face! They are paying my local dealer to fit new discs and pads all round.

This is a main dealer as well, not some back street shop. They’re 150 miles away so I reckon they thought they’d get away with it because I couldnt just go back. Wrong!

Certainly a bad dealer experience! Will name and shame when everything is sorted.

Yes, my last few have all come through within a week - I'd get onto it OP.

Picked up my car from Swansea on a Wednesday afternoon, stayed overnight in the Village Hotel in Swansea and then arrived back in Blackpool on Thursday afternoon.

New V5C arrived from DVLA on Saturday morning?

As said, they are really quick these days - A call to the vehicle enquiry line will confirm whether you are now the registered keeper - 0300 7906802

So I rang the DVLA....

They have no record of me as the registered keeper! I said they did it online and he said they have no record of that!

So I’ve downloaded the form I need and will send it in with the green slip.

Bl00dy salesman probably pressed cancel at the wnd of the registration process!
