New owner - another stereo question....

Hi everyone,

Picked up 3.0 SE the other day and I'm chuffed to bits with it, however I do have a couple of questions regarding the stereo that the manual / search function doesn't seem to provide any information on.

The volume on the CD player / changer is incredibly quiet compared to the radio; if I switch to the radio after I've been listening to a cd, I seem to get the sort of hike in volume levels that could end up blowing the speakers - does anyone know if there's any form of source level adjustment for the different inputs so that I can bring the two in line with each other? Makes me jump out of my skin every time if I forget.....

Secondly, does anyone know how you remove the grills covering the subs behind the seats? Not sure if they simply pry off, but as it's a new toy, I'm reluctant to go forcing panels off in case I break it. The reason I ask is because I'm not convinced they're working and would like to take a proper look at them - I've got the carver system (dsp on stereo, amp in boot with carver logo down the left hand side etc.) and in all fairness, it doesn't sound too bad; however, all the bass seemed to be coming from the front speakers. I adjusted the fader and put it all the way to the back, and I only seemed to be getting sound from the small circular speaker above the subs, even when cranked right up high. If I could get the grills off and get a look at the speaker, I could confirm whether or not they're moving at all, at least then I'd have some idea as to whether they're working at all / just not working very well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. A quick search will help you with details on removing the rear speaker panels. I'm sure someone will soon repond on your other issues.

are you using original CD's or ones you burnt yourself? If you are using home burned ones you may find the software is averaging the sound volume across the disc to be the same, and its averaging it lower than normal...

To remove the bass speker covers is reslly simple. You need a 'non marking prising tool' (BMW speak) - i use a dessert spoon (handle end) which is wide with no sharp edges. A 'rounded' butter knife or similar is fine.

Just slot it under the bottom corner of the surround on the mesh cover, it'll pop off.

- They just click back in it you press in with the palm of your hand.

Rgds.

... i'm going to start previewing my messages! - I CAN spell, but my typing's really very bad on my little netbook. - apologies! :D

Welcome Timmmy!

seen sooo many posts about checking the subs work, i bet they are. i think they don't sit on the rear fader, so fading them back won't highlight them.

fade it forwards, turn the bass up full and put your hand over it. you should feel it moving if they're working.

don't know of any way of adjusting the cd volume independantly - id agree with trying an original cd.

Hello and welcome :)

Sure I read somewhere there is a way to adjust the volume levels of all the sources - cant recall where though :?

cheers for the replies guys, the cd's were all ones that I'd burnt myself, so that may be the issue - I'll try it with some proper cd's to see if that proves the theory...

Take a look at this thread. I think it's very clear the description of the carver system.

Yes we know it's definitely the Carver system. Tonnes of people think the subs arent working, I reckon they actually are 8)

Good luck finding an original cd, lol.
