New member with one question for now

Hello, just moving over from the zpost forums as there seems to be more activity here. I have a new to me a 09 Z4 that is an original owner with 47k miles. I owned a Z3 for 8 years and a Tr6 before that and a Mustang Cobra after the Z3 but now I have gone back to a bmw which overall is my favorite weekend car so far. My question is, I want to buy a wind screen, I don’t like the mesh ones like I had on my Z3. There are many available and some are too expensive and some have too much tint and some have the large Z4 logo which I don’t like. On Amazon there are the ones advertised as the number 1 rated screen—-they are reasonably priced and I don’t mind the wide straps. What are some thoughts and recommendations?
 
Welcome to the forum Fyreball. An 09 with only 47k is a nice find. We love to see pictures, so don't be stingy about your new baby. If you don't like mesh or the glowing Z4 polycarbonate/acrylic... then a decent shaped glass one like this may be your best bet. currently on sale for $99. It's not my style, but if I was getting one, it would likely be the glass as better to prevent scratches than the plastic ones.

Hi and welcome. don't forget we like to see pictures here ;)
Just a word of warning. I can't comment personally but have read posts from other members that the solid acrylic type wind screens can cause some buffeting in the cabin.
 
Welcome ..the plastic/glass rear wind screens buffet like crazy unless you drive like Miss Daisy in which case fine..
 
Agree the plastic ones look better but dont work - better without really. I have the mesh leather type that fits over the hoops - I went for functionality in the end over looks.
 
When i had my MGTF i built a perspex screen that fitted between the headrests, any buffeting air went down back of seat.
So then fitted horizontal air dam from ply.

Started all by experimenting with cardboard in various positions.
Surprised still have picture after my 3tb hard drive failed!
If i didn't have std. i would make for Z4.

Thanks for reply’s , not sure in this case what is considered buffeting? I know there have been complaints about rattling vibrations, which one person fixed with foam strips where the screen hits the roll hoops. So far not sure which way to go—-mesh or solid?
 
No not vibration, others may be able to describe more accurately, but its like pulsing air pressure in the cabin.
Sometimes experienced in a 'normal' car if one window is partially open and you have to open another window to 'relieve' the pressure

Exactly, I feel it more as a 'drumming' sensation in my ears.
Having said that, whilst I've heard a few complaints about perspex screens, I currently have one in my daily E85 and it doesn't cause any issues at all.
Maybe it's more an E89 thing?

From what I can see the Perspex type that fit between the hoops don’t cause the buffeting problem as much. Perspex doesn’t show one for E89 on their web site. I think I’ve seen others with same configuration.
