Afternoon All

After failing to win a bid for a 1988 MG metro turbo on flebay I have just placed an order for a z4 2007 auto coupe which was a slight twist on my plan .... :?
car appears to be in fine fettle but for of a couple of minor points

Q 1 Front fogs lamps are have failed due to water ingress , this appear to be a common fault ? , best place to buy a replacement , and will those also fail ?
Q 2 The wheels fitted to the car are rather tasty split rim type , which are in need of refurbing , the tyres are a bit of a mixed bag so going to replace while the rims are off the car , any know places to the wheels sorted in / around Derbyshire , what is the best tyre for " less sporting" use , again any places in south Derbyshire advised to go to
Q3 Cup holder to dash , this is stuck into the dash , think I have worked out how to get it out by striping down the air vent , is this common and can you free it up to move in / out again , or are we heading for ebay land
Q4 Any know issues which I need to check on , reading the vanos are not an issue with this age of car ? , water pump is a question still have to work this out ,

so as a new-be to the rather unplanned ownership of this fine car ,any help would be gratefully received :D

all the best

Congratulations on losing the bid for the Metro...

Just kidding, was it a minter? What made you want one? In my youth I had about 5 MG metro's but never a turbo, there must be only a handful left that hav'nt rotted to dust.

Where in Derbyshire are you? I'm near Bakewell.

Hi john
I live in Linton , so around a 1hour from yourself

MG was a 2 owner car , stored cir 25 years , recommsion last year shown 15K on the clock with all the supporting paper work , including the covers for the floor mats , sale invoice from 1988 plus bills for 2.5 K worth of repairs following storage .. winning bid .......FFS 11,200 .... as a note 12 left on the road !!!!!

£11,200 for a metro turbo... :o :o Hell fire!!

Mr Wilks on here will advise you on your 108's plus tyres, he's the man.

There's a very good Indy not far from you in Heanor, he gets good reviews.

Hope you get sorted and welcome.

Welcome, you will love the Z. Are you sure you have cup holders and not just blanking plates- cup holders have a picture of a drink on- blanks are smooth. May seem daft but thought I'd check before you go to the effort of pulling vents out.

They are an easy retrofit if you don't have them.

Welcome along.
Fogs are renowned for collecting moisture and misting over. Some members have drilled small drainage holes on the underside of the lens believe it or not. And yes, over time replacement ones will almost definitely mist up too. Some members have even bought the blank covers and done away with them! I just live with mine misted over - they do still work though.

So let me run through this again. You wanted a Metro & you finished up with a Z4.

Thank goodness for fate.

Enjoy the forum and your new wheels.

Welcome, nice car

As an owner of an MG metro turbo in the late 80's I think you can pat yourself on the back for having the losing bid. I'm amazed there's still 12 going :?

Happy Zeding :driving:
