Hence why you should always do your own research and read the literature produced instead of going straight to a dealer to enquire about buying a second hand car they probably don't have. Of course they'll try and sell you what they've got. 2.0l variants are very popular. Plus people keep thinking the 35i and 35is are the same car because they keep putting the sdrive part at the end instead of at the front.
No offence but a lot of people either check out the bmw site or come into forums like this to ask questions. Or they go to a dealership, pick up a brochure, take it home, read it and make up their mind before venturing into buying a car.

No offence to auto/dct drivers but I have never felt the same level of connection compared to a manual box. Maybe I am a little old fashioned.
We have had a tiptronic Supra since 2010 and although it goes like a rocket in a straight line, I prefer going round corners and twisty sprints to outright performance. My wife had a 520D auto and an A4 tiptronic and although they were nice cars, we still felt a little detached when it came to changing down in the corners.
Everyone to their own I suppose.

To be honest it's a metal moving part with around 20 switches and over the years and use people get issues with all folding roofs be it a motor, a sensor etc. Thats the issue with moving parts, they can fail. As for squeaking again, I've only read of 1 person on here and that was recently.
All modern cars have small sqeaks and rattles some people are more anal about them than others. I know I have little noises sometimes and my other half can ignore them where as I pinpoint them and sort them. The E89 hasn't really had many issues and any issues have been very few and far between. I think the biggst problem is the cracked 19inch alloys but that's not exclusive to the E89.

Aah, the cracking alloys was another one. With researching any car, the forums are going to highlight any issue and possibly make it look worse than it actually is. There are a few disgruntled reviews from owners on Autotrader. Either way it has not deterred me from looking further into the car.

If your not set on a new car and you like a manual that goes around corners, have you looked into a low mileage E85 or E86 ///M.
Will be older that your looking at, 2008, but there are still a few cars about with 10-20k on the clock and you won't lose a shed load in depreciation either. It's the drivers choice and, as with the E89's, they are very reliable machines

Thanks. Not keen on the convertibles, although I would consider a coupe. Really fancy the E89. Great looking car for me and with the hard top you have the option of dropping the roof once a year...

welcome..... with the heated seats you should get her top down more than that. Dont get 19" wheels unless you want to run normal tyres as they tend to crack the 17 and 18 didnt seem to suffer.
There is a reason the 35is does not come with manual box the auto suits the car so well,try one.
The z4 is more of a sports grand tourer maybe try a lighter car if you want to have fun in the twisties (elise etc)

As per Brasseye's post if fun in the twisties is what you are after then there are probably better choices to be made.
I have only just started my Z4 experience and the twisties are not a highlight in this car (so far).
If this is one of your main priorities then a test drive is an absolute must.

Stark always seemed to have fun on the twisties in his e89... And metal licker will disagree with the above entirely. Depends how you drive it I guess. But buzyg has a point, you should also test drive an MC or an MR, just to be sure :wink:

Wondering about an M3 now or may Z4M Coupe. I need to test drive the Z as I like the look of them, my concern is how well they go around corners. If the adaptive suspension can tighten things up enough then I will hopefully go that way.
Don't get me wrong driving 2000 miles in the south of France two weeks ago.
There was no other car that would have been better for us.
The auto box is always just brilliant. adaptive suspension gives almost two cars in one.
Will be going again next year
The Z does so many things so well,and still sporty enough (in a tvr kinda way)to have great fun,
and that's whats its all about ??
If you can manage with two seats and like a bit of comfort you cant do much better than the Z for the money.
