New member fuel starting issues

Mike im not keep sure what you mean? i was going to try sending power to the plug attached to the pump. Not sure what you mean about where it enters the boot? Followed the cable from the pump and it enters the car in a forward facing direction unless it doubles back to the boot once inside . I have all the boot wires stripped of their black horrible sticky tape .

I was hoping it was that wire that heads through the floor that it is capped off and goes nowhere as soon as it’s through the floor .

Going to check voltage and the pump tonight after work and see what it says . If there’s voltage when cranking I’m guessing it’s the pump .

Follow the lead from the pump backwards and break it at the first plug/connector - Apply 12v to it with a fused 30a lead, brown is negative. If the pump runs then, it should start you'll then know the pump itself is fine. According to tis etc, the pump is supposed to be modulated, but I think that's not right, as although it shows the module, I've had a 2.5 in pieces this week looking for it and it looks like the pump only has one speed, and the pressure is regulated on the fuel rail itself, unless anyone knows better?

Il get it jacked back up tonight and have a look. Going to be tricky to follow the wire i reckon as it disappears straight away into the body of the car into , im guessing the inner wing section. Il test voltage to it first then try and get to the wiring . Does it have to be a fused wire? What will happen if i just run a live to it from the battery?

No it doesn't, I was just erring on the side of caution for you, not knowing how capable you were. Personally I wouldn't use a fuse, but then again, I'd just use my power probe 4 to spin it up..

Ok Mike thanks again . Il give this bash tonight along with testing voltage at the relay and report back .

No power getting to the plug as far as I can tell with the earth on both the body and the earth on the plug separate checks .9A8D61EE-3715-4FB3-BDF1-D5A40A281A90.jpeg[ref]Ducklakeview[/ref],

That could simply be the car detecting an open circuit and shutting it down, I assume the other half of that connector goes to the pump, in which case apply 12v and see if it runs.

I wired the appropriate connections on the pump to positive and negative on my battery and got no change . Will try it again tomorrow and try get a better connection to the pump .

Sorry to revive an old post, but THANK YOU... everywhere said the trunk... I had a suspicion the relay was behind the fuse box. So my 04 Z4 3.0 does not have an actual EKPS?, just a relay? Cause my scanner is saying no comms to the EKPS, unit...(I will create a post about why I was looking for it) :D And is it just the bottom 2 screws to remove the fuse box, or are there more above it where the passengers air bag is?

This is a bit of a thread from the dead … what’s the crack then for 04 plate e85? A relay on the back of the fuse box in the glove box or that module behind the rhs boot carpet?

I’m trying to find out why my car will crank till the cows come home and not fire but if you turn the key/ignition off the straight on again it’s 2 turns over and fired

Same issue here. 2003 Z4.

ISTA shows "EKPS communication error".

Lot's of googling --> I am now 99% confident these early models were shipped without an EKPS module!!!
I think ISTA (and also INPA) think there should be a EKPS module. So probably introduced very shortly after 2003?

Car runs great for > 10.000 km, so for sure not a real issue with the fuel pump or EKPS.
