Hi all ,
Have had my 2014 e89 35i for a few years now , and it’s first issue has arisen ! Nothing major , but annoying all the same . The rear window weather strip on both sides have developed a tear in the fine strip that touches the glass , issue is are they easy to remove /replace , they look like they are hooked under an inner metal guide so would need parting with the other rubbers and sliding off (could be utterly wrong on this !!) any advice would be well received .

Andy

Hi and welcome to the forum.
A photo of your pride and joy would be nice and also one of the weather strip.
I would have thought it would only be available from the main dealer new but you may be able to source used from a breakers yard/eBay

Cars looks great in white. It’s hard to see what’s splitting from the photo, have you tried some rubber conditioners on them, something like gummi-pfledge or a rubber o ring grease, it may help to stop it getting any worse.
I’m from just up the M1 from you at Wakefield so I’ll keep a lookout for you :driving: :D

Hi
Thanks for welcome ,
you can’t see the split in the photos as it’s at the lowest point on the groove nearest the window , I think it will happen to most of our cars as it’s a design flaw . The window as it goes thru it’s travel , has the rubberised metal edge on it ( which mates with the door glass , when closed ) this rubs tight against the seal blade in deforms it , hence it has now parted company with the rest of the strip .

Hi and welcome from another newbie based in Yorkshire-south of Sheffield with a 2009 35i
Think part you are looking for is no2 on this diagram- only available from dealers I believe- unless you can get from a scapper-ot try Quarry motors in Sheffield -quote part no likely to fit all variants
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=LM72-EUR-12-2009-E89-BMW-Z4_35i&diagId=51_7214

If its the same as the front door a relatively easy part to remove and refit. Got one for an E46 years ago and the parts guy fitted it for me in the car park in 5 minutes.

Hi ,
I’ve tried quarry and no look , I have the part no. Yes it is no2 , they are £113 from dealers , I’ve looked at removing them , and they look fairly easy!! , famous last words ! Motor hog have broken 3 in Doncaster but are not interested in selling the strips , which is frustrating as they have a 2016 model in stock .

Offer then £50 ( or whatever your upper limit is) and say you will collect- they may change their mind) alternative is to just keep searching on ebay/gumtree

Or ring this seller on ebay small part easily posted

Hi ,
I’m in-touch with that ebay seller , awaiting his response, and I am going to offer them to remove and pick them up , I have some time to do so this week 👍🏻
