Hi all, been lurking about for a while here doing some research, but feel it is rude not to introduce myself properly. I am 32 and love cars (like everyone on here!). I generally change my motor once a year as I tend to get bored easily. I do like to drive something special, and a bit different or at least not too common.

I have owned cars such as a Volvo C30 T5, Leon Cupra, Mini Cooper, etc. treated myself three years ago to a '95 Corrado VR6, which I absolutely loved and is probably my favourite car to date. God I miss it.... Sold it and moved on to a Mk V R32 in that stunning blue and fully loaded. It was a natural progression and again, I miss the NA V6 silky smooth power. Sadly, personal circumstances dictated that I sell it and get something cheap and economical to run for a while. I'm getting back to the point where I can buy a proper car again, and want something special to give me some driving pleasure again.

Quite frankly, with the exception of brands like Maserati, Aston Martin etc, modern cars don't really excite me with their 4 pot turbo engines blah blah blah. I need some 6 pot NA pleasure and that brought me to Bavarians finest. Was initially looking at E92 330i coupes but then I chanced across the Z4 coupe, and it has really turned my head a lot. I appreciate that it has some issues but what car doesn't? I like to research my purchase thoroughly before buying and know I will have to take a trip to the mainland to get one of these rare beasts but that's part of the fun. So I'll be on the look out for a coupe with a manual box in as good a condition as I can afford.

I look forward to getting a car and becoming part of, what seems like, a very friendly and helpful forum.

Ben

Hi Benji and welcome.
I see you are looking for a Coupe, great choice
You will like it, but if your budget allows it, aim for the M!
Good luck with the hunt and hope to see you soon here.

Thank you for the kind welcome guys. Zeddicus- my budget will be between 10-13k (for the right car). With that in mind, would the M be much better? I'm looking something reasonably comfortable and heard the the M is very hard?

The coupes are great looking Zeds. My 3.0si (Roadster) offers lots of potential. The //m costs don't stop with the purchase price, servicing and running costs are higher - sometimes much higher, so just be aware of what you're getting into if you go that route. I would love an //M but can't justify those costs and my 3.0si does enough for me on the road! (For the time being  )

Good luck with the search - there are some lovely Coupes on the forum.

:driving:

Thank you guys for the welcome.
Paul- yes, the additional running/ servicing costs would definitely be a factor and I think for me personally, the standard Si model would be perfect and offer the right balance based on what I'm looking for. Just a shame that Le Mans blue is reserved for the M :((.

I will definitely be looking to buy a forum car, as that is how I sourced my Corrado and R32. I think with cars like these, provenance is important (well to me it is anyway) and I'd like to know I'm buying one from someone who has a passion for the car. I'm fussy so I think the colour combo will be the biggest issue, plus I want one without the standard silver/ aluminium dash trim if I can.

Thanks again guys, very excited!!

Welcome- where in NI you from- I am originally from Belfast. You may need to travel over the water to bag the right car as the Z4 is a rare beast back home.

Cheers Paddy. Originally from Belfast myself-south east sort of area but living out beyond Ards along the coast. You been away long? Yes, absolutely more than happy to travel over to the mainland to get one, done it for the Golf and it was a great day out, especially the back roads in Scotland heading towards the ferry :))

They are some great roads! I've been over here since coming for Uni in 2000 but still go home to see family and friends a lot and even bought my x5 out of Bavarian Belfast last year.

I'm in the same boat to Paddy but I came to Belfast for Uni in 2003 and haven't managed to leave yet!

I live down in South Belfast and have a blue Coupe if you fancy a sniff around it anytime? There's not too many of them over here that I've seen. I got mine from Bavarian and they've been brilliant.

Cheers!

Welcome & good luck with your search  although you're looking for the wrong model - Roadster is the way to go

Hey thanks for the welcome. Yes, south Belfast is a nice part to be living, no plans to move back at all?

That is really decent of you to offer, I'd certainly love to take you up on the offer as actually getting to see one in the flesh and sit in one has been a problem given their scarcity over here. I'd happily drop you a case of beer/ bottle of nice wine for your trouble. Thanks ever so much, really appreciate that.

And the forums brilliance shines through again!

No plans to move home yet unless the job takes me! Life is easy here in N.Ireland compared to England!

I'm in Stranmillis so fairly central to Belfast, I'll pm you my number and we can arrange some time for a meet up and a good chat!

Cheers!

Cheers for the welcome, totally agree about it being a great forum, really enjoy the sense of friendliness amongst you guys. Some forums can be pretty cold and rude, but this has a great feel to it. I missed the R32 forum I was part of but this feels like a place to come from some banter and helpful chats.

Oh and the only time I like taking the top off is when it means I'm about to see a nice rack :D
