Hello!! Finally decided to take the plunge and join the gang after being a regular reader for a few months. Few issues I cant stay quiet on any longer - more on this later.

Been in my E89 2.3 M-Sport (Highline Edition) since September 2011. Promised myself I would be back in two seater convertible before I was 50 and managed to do with a few months to spare.

Decided to make the move after my local dealer offered me a deal too good to turn down (BMW deposit contribution-dealer loyalty discount-added up to more than £7000 off list), plus my E93 (3 litre diesel) convertible was coming up to four years old.

I have to say I miss the 3 series M-Sport (auto). Very classy and a real head turner (I bought a set of OEM CSL alloys), smooth (non-runflats and 6 cyl engine) and a very economical continental cruiser but a lot of fun as well with the flappy paddle box (when in the mood). I know the purists will have a pop at the fuel choice but the six pot diesel is absolutely fantastic!

The E89 had a lot to live up to but I have to say that I have not been disappointed at all. I love it and cant wait till it gets its first run across the Alps to Lake Garda in May. Its not quite up to the E93 for the motorway cruise (not far off though due to the hard top and high quality interior) but for sheer driving pleasure its unbeatable.

Anyway, back the main reasons for my decision to join the club and time to lay my cards on the table. Three key facts that may endear me to some but be hated by others but what the hell. Sometimes you've got to face up to facts!

1: Alpine White is simply the best colour for the E89 M-Sport
2: Stubby aerials look ridiculous.
3: The 6 cyl engine is the only engine to have in a BMW.

I'm sorry but I had to do it and its better out than in! it. Please don't hold it against me and I will look forward to the replies.

PS: Just one more thing, my last two seater was an MGB back in 1986. I was in the MG Owners Club and would always wave/flash at other MG's on the road. I'm totally up for this in my Z4 and have started to raise my hand (a little) when I see other Zeds. Small steps to start with but I'm definitely working up to a full wave and even a flash, so don't be surprised if this happens when you're out and about in the North West!

Bye for now.

Welcome to the fold

If you have been watching for a good few months then let me be the first to say :worthless:

...cos you should know better :D

As for your points...

1. Lovely, but getting very common
2. Vive les differences
3. x2

Finally managed to work out how to add photo's. Phew!

Decided to add two photo's as I currently have the CSL alloys on as the 326's are having a good clean. I really am undecided about which I prefer (but leaning towards the 326's) and I'm not noticing a great deal of difference in ride quality between the CSL's with non RFT's and the 326's with Bridgestones RFT's.

Had the CSL on my E93 and they were superb with no rubbing issues. On the E89 there is a very (very!) slight rub on the inside at maximum full lock but not at all significant.

Sorry the photos are so big but not been able to work out how to make the smaller.

Welcome along.
1: We shall agree to differ.
2: The standard aerial belongs on a fairground dodgem.
3: Totally agree.
Have a great European road trip and enjoy the drive.

Gorgeous, love the wheels, that reg plate OCD, I suffer with that.

My wifes idea of a joke a while back and very true in my case as shes very well cared for (the car and my wife!). Thought I would struggle with the Alpine White but doesn't show the dirt anywhere near as much as my previous Saphire Black E93. :)

Hi and welcome
Dont listen to the stubby aerial fanatics ! The whip is the way forward :D

Exactly! I was being to think I’d made a big mistake not going with the stubby but I may crumble under the pressure!!!
