New member and Z owner!

That interior

However, not sure about that tin roof thingy... How you meant to get the roof down when you're driving about? :poke:  ;)

Ha thanks for the welcome!

It's been a bit of a challenge trying to convince people that it was a good idea buying a two seat coupe as my only car! However as I guess a lot of you will know it was a heart over head moment when deciding to purchase the Z!

Having only 2 seats is perfect, as you never get volunteered as a taxi for family or friends.

Very nice car, welcome to the forum

Very jealous! I had my eye on that one but I am not back in the UK until end of March. I know it's rude to ask but can I ask what kind of discount (if any!) you got off the asking price? Obviously there is a premium for an official Approved used BMW but do they haggle? Just need to get my ammo sorted for when I get back!

Hope you like it - but if you don't, give me a call in April!!

Enjoy. :P

If you're willing to wait about 1 month or so you can easily get some good money off. Go in to see the car, drive it, make all the right noises. Give them a low ball offer and leave. Wait for the phone to ring. I managed to get £1500 off the initial list price of my AUC car. Although they did reduce it by £1000 themselves after a month..

When I went it to see it (I rang the day it was listed on the BMW site) I offered them the price I bought it for (£1500 under asking) and walked out stating I had to sell one of my cars first. They wouldnt budge from a £750 discount.

My car didnt sell as quickly as I'd hoped and by the time it had sold another similar private car had come up at £3000 less than the AUC. I used this as leverage to demand more discount. 2 days later the car was discounted £1000 online and I had the dealer emailing me asking if I was still interested.

Naturally I said yes at the right price (as the private car was not perfect, higher miles, less spec). he said the agreed price (£750 under asking). I told him - why would I pay that when its already been discounted by more on bmw.co.uk?

He came back and said he was pleased to inform me he could offer me the car at the new asking price £1000 under original plus 6 months tax. I told him to go stuff it and give me the original one figure I had asked for in the first place (£1500 under list).

He agreed, car purchased and done.

Chain of events:

8th Dec 2011 : Car Listed on BMW AUC, I emailed and spoke to the dealer 9th Dec
10th Dec 2011 : My first visit - the car had not passed its AUC yet and was filthy (just in)
10th Dec 2011 : My offer : - at £1500 under list price
10th Dec - 11th Jan 2012 - I was trying to sell my E24 to make way for the E86. During this time dealer would not budge from £750 under list.
11th Jan 2012 : Sold my E24 and told the dealer I was seeing a very similar car listed £3000 under their list.
16th Jan 2012 : Dealer emails asking if im interested I say yes (as above discussions on price)
16th Jan 2012 : Car reduced £1000 on BMW AUC
16th Jan 2012 : I told the dealer make it my original offer price (£1500 under list and I will buy it)
17th Jan 2012 : Sale agreed, deposit left, car all by bought!

Wisebuyers had the list price of the vehicle at £1250 under list when I first saw it.
When I collected it the wisebuyers price was £3000 under list (and still is)
Considering the car has £6000 of options on it I think it warranted the extra £1500 over the book price.

But anyway sorry for rambling - if you wait you can get a good discount but it will be in the back of your head that the car could sell any day. Having said that, there are some cars on AUC for up to 3 months (one at Oxford has been there since November and has been reduced £1200 in that time. Another at BMW Cobham was reduced £2900 from Nov to Jan - however it was ludicrously overpriced to begin with).

I'm glad you like it! :D. I'd actually been looking for an E46 M3, and merely came across it on Wednesday, as a car It basically screamed 'BUY ME'!

If i don't like it (and I hope I do!) I'll be sure to let you know. I went in offering roughly 10% less but managed to get 5% after a bit of haggling over the phone. Obviously asking prices aren't selling prices. The assurance of buying a car from a main dealer and the AUC benefits included seemed to make it worth paying that little bit more!
