Hi guys, someone over on PH suggested I should sign up here so here I am. I am from Newcastle and currently drive an FN2 Civic Type-R. However, I have been getting bored with it - it's a great car - it looks nice, its reliable, it handles well (at speed), it has a nice interior, and a cracking engine.... but its also FWD and having had a few RWD cars, it's hard to forget that balance and handling characteristics. I was toying with the idea of modding the Civic, but I can't be bothered. I also want a car that doesn't have to be ragged to get some fun from it - I used to have a 350Z and loved the lazy, torquey V6 and the noise it made!
So, I was wondering what to get. I did think of the S2000 but they're very expensive now even for an old car and if the owners haven't kept up with oil checks, I could have a time bomb on my hands. It also doesn't solve the problem of the peaky engine, which means hooligan driving is needed to enjoy it, otherwise it just sounds dull. Elise / VX220 - although I could forgive the engine for not having much aural excitement because of its handling, this has to be a daily driver so is too raw really, I would definitely get sick of it. So in the end, the decision came down to the 350Z and Z4C. However, I've already had a 350Z so I looked a bit more into the coupe......
It doesn't seem to have many down sides does it? Cheaper road tax and much more fuel efficient than the 350Z, and it sounds like the engine is even better (lighter, more revvy and smoother). The 350Z was also a heavy beast and it's handling left a little to be desired, the BMW seems as though it will be better here. It doesn't seem to have anything that could go to ruinously wrong (unlike a Boxster) and most important, it looks as though it will feel special and be fun at all times - I want every drive to be an event, which is just isn't in the Civic.
So I'll be looking to spend no more than £10K and be looking to buy once winter is done and dusted (I still owe a bit more than my car is currently worth on the loan but in a few months will be more or less breaking even). Although I'd be happier still to get a nice one for £8K - possible? There are £8K cars out there, but is it going to be beneficial to spend a little extra?
Anyway in the spirit of the forum, here is a picture of some of my previous and more interesting cars over the last decade.
