Morning all,

I have lurked on the forums for a bit and read my fill. After being extremely indecisive about what car I wanted to buy, I think I have finally made my mind up to go for the E86.

My current insurance is up for renewal in March, so I'll be trying to pick up my perfect Z between now and then. I'm not in a rush and can commute on my bike or public transport so I'm content waiting for the perfect spec at a decent price now that winter is rolling in!

In the mean time, research and lining up mods :)

Welcome, the E86 is definitely the best Zed, there are some great spec, low mileage cars around for little money here for sale on the forum..

Including mine! GLWTS

Blue... Your car is so close to being exactly what I want... ticks every box except for the manual gear box, that such a shame!

How comes you're selling your Z?

Ah thats a shame, although I do recommend driving both as I found the auto preferable over the manual on this car..

I'm selling because I have a new job requiring a lot more travel and a growing family who need more seats. We have 2 x 2 door cars in the family and they will both need replacing eventually. Im probably going to an X4 or RR Evoque..

I've never driven an auto before, they seem too un-involved for my liking. Is there anything in particular that caused you to prefer the auto over the manual?

Welcome to the forum. :) Enjoy to hunt. As you say plenty of time to shop around for the spec you want.

Yes - I was like you, had never driven an auto properly before and then bought a 1988 E24 635Csi which comes 90% in auto (manuals are 5x the price) and the gearbox was a dream! I then test drove both the manual and auto E86. I found the manual notchy and the clutch wasnt smooth while the auto was the exact opposite. It has flappy paddles and gearbox shift (the latter is quite fun) but the car itself is so much fun I dont even remember my manuals. I then changed all the cars in the household to autos and never looked back!
