Hi to all on the forum.

firstly i wanted to say a belated thanks as i have been following some posts for around 12 months, plus a little. Picked up my Z4 35i late september 2009 and found lots of useful info here. I have been following some posts re problems with the Z4 in between as well.

I have done just 0n 21,000 miles so far including a 3000mile jaunt around france, switzerland and italy, down as far as Firenze. I love the car although do miss the convenience of my previous 3 series convertibles. My wife was most disgruntled about the reduced capacity for bringing wine home from France. I have explained a roof rack isn't an option.

I would like to ask if anyone is having issues with bluetooth connectivity. I don't have i-drive but do have bluetooth built in and a cradle installed. I am using the iphone 3gs and am finding that the car disconnects from the phone even though the call is still live on the phone. The car is getting close to it's first service and this will be one of the things i get BMW to look at but i am intrigued to find out if the problem has occured for others.

Look forward to hearing back from you.
Many thanks
PS i'm not overly techie and have tried to post pics below, having an aversion to microsoft i use mozilla firefox so not sure how it will deal with this (i also hate the i-phone, my IT guys tell me i am the only person in the world that does and yes you can ask why then do i have an iphone in the car, there isn't a sensible or postable answer :-) )

Roofless, nice looking zed

firefox

Microsoft

I use my iPod in the car and my Samsung phone works great on bluetooth.

Thanks for the welcomes and comments. There are a few E89's around my neck of the woods and i haven't yet seen a colour i don't like. I loved the look in the brochure and the deep sea blue hooked me. When i was looking to change the car i briefly flirted with the idea of a jag XK8 or an Aston DB7, both had lovely blues with parchment interiors and when i saw the ivory white package on the z4 i knew i'd love it. Keeping it clean is another matter as i very rarely have the roof up. I should take notes but reckon i get around 300 days a year where the roof comes down. I have had to defrost the windows before now to work the hood. -6 degrees is coldest it's been so far in my roofless time. Might sound crazy but there's nothing so beautiful as a cold crisp winters morn with the sun peeking over the horizon and the wind in your hair (plus an icicle or two :-) )

x2 - a proper roadster owner! welcome!

Welcome roofless! Absolutely stunning motor, the silver and blue compliment each other so well. Loving the commitment of having the roof down!

Re- iPhone I quite simply couldn't change to any other handset! Upgrade to the iPhone 4, screen, speed etc is amazing.

Just out of interest did the Bluetooth stop working after an OS upgrade on your phone? Same issues were occurring on my old dears Merc CLS.. But after the latest release all seemed to be working. Anyways... There are loads of very knowledgeable people on here so I am sure you will get an answer very soon!

Enjoy the forums! :)

Thanks aRtemis. Interesting to hear about your CLS. I have two possible causes in mind. Yes i have had a couple of software updates on the iphone and i had thought it may be a compatibility issue from that. When i came back from my jaunt around Europe, about a week later, the engine management light came on, BMW said this was a minor issue to do with mixture but while i was waiting to get the car booked in the engine began to cut out completely. BMW had the car for a week, it took 2 days for the car to take the software upload! I did ask if Microsoft did the coding and was promised they didn't :-)
At the end of the week and £1700 pounds of warranty work later i got my baby back with a 'we're not really sure what it was but we've replaced fuel lines to injectors, plugs, air flow meter etc so she should be fine'.
That was a long way of saying i do wonder if something in the software update has caused the issue. Where i am driving mostly has some signal black spots so having the phone drop out wasn't initially an overly unusual occurrence and it is hard to pinpoint exactly when the issue with the phone losing connection to the car but not to the call started. I will see what BMW can tell me. Thanks again for your interest.

Being the owner of an 07' Z4 which has been blue tooth prepped I also have a similar problem. I have an iphone 4 (best phone on the market, by the way) and whilst it finds the blue tooth without a problem when someone calls the phone rings through the speakers but when you answer it doesn't automatically put it through. Instead it gives you the option of connecting to blue tooth (car), headset or phone. Have ordered an iphone 4 fixing kit from my local BMW dealer, but I think it is December before these are available.

Hi, love deep sea blue, just have to clean it regularly as well as the seats too, but wouldn't change the colour combination at all.

Surely there is more room in the boot of the Z4 than the 3 series convertible with the tin roof, especially when its down?

Interesting about the iphone 4, thanks. A friend of mine has had all sorts of trouble picking a phone for his z4 coupe and spent 6 months trying different ones before he was happy so this phone stuff isn't easy. Shame because on my first 3 series the bluetooth worked faultlessly.

Re 3 series bootspace, both my 3 series were rag tops so bootspace was pretty good all round. I did look at the new tin top 3 series but when i drove it i was really disappointed in the changes made. I'm rubbish on the techy stuff guys so forgive me for not knowing the appropriate model number but i had a 2003 and 2006 and the drive was lovely, really responsive and felt so connected to the road. Communication from the car when driving was fabulous but in the new 3 series, with all the gubbins affecting the steering it felt more remote. That was a concern when i test drove the E89 (see i know some little bits) i have now. If i could change anything about the car it would be to have that direct link to the wheels when driving. Having said that i love the z4. It wasn't a car i ever imagined getting but i wouldn't change it now. Well perhaps if i can swap it for a DBS volante or the gorgeous 911 turbo cabriolet i saw in a porsche show room the other weekend. Both well out of my price range unfortunately, as was the porsche 356 coupe they had on show, nearly fifty years old with a top speed of 114mph but it stole the showroom. The convertible version would be in my dream garage. (next to the z4 of course)
