After watching top gear, had a quick google for images and the clincher for me was this

I'm so disappointed, because by and large it is a great car, but it's not practical for an only car, where every other mainstream two seater sports car are :thumbsdown:

Plus it's about £20k too expensive. Might as well spend the extra £5k and get a 911 (coupe for me obviously) or save £20k and get a Boxster S if you really must have a roadster.

Very nice looking car. Front reminds me (unfortunately) of a 370z - so not so big a fan of that bit. BUT....

but if a bit less luggage space is sacrificed for such a great looking back end, then get a luggage rack or fitted luggage...
Jaguar (or someone) will do fitted luggage for this (I was thinking about it for the Z4 but OH would rather get chauffered by easyair/ryanjet)
Boot space is quoted at 198 Litres (they use 10 x 10 x 10 cubes for this I believe), about 3 medium suitcases. It's just the wrong shape for more than one suitcase.
Not driven one, and am unlikely to until they come down to about 15k, so can't comment on that.

Who would spec it with a spare wheel anyway? The last 4 cars ive owned haven't had one, the Z doesn't have one. The 911 has a tiny boot too but the rear parcel and the rear seats fold so there is loads of room but that doesn't have a spare either. Even if you bought the spare im assuming its a space saver so where is the wheel with a blown tyre going??? Also with it weighing so much a spar is just ore dead weight.
I went to look at one and I think they are lovely, such a stunning car and the interior is lovely too! The noise also made me feel the Z should have more. It might not be the 911 replacement we were looking for but its different the styling is gorgeous and it adds a new bit of competition which is never a bad thing. Might get BMW off its ass and design a new Z4M.
The main thing is that its different and not everyone has one which is the draw.

Sounds nice (there is one i see fairly regularly on the business park here)
But it's awful value for money - there are a lot of much more appealing cars in/around that price
I also think they missed a trick - if you are going to compete with the 911 you need those extra 2 teeny seats in the back. No, we probably won't ever use them, but the wife won't let us buy one unless they're there. 2 seater Cayman competitor? - should be the same price as a cayman/boxster

I think Jaguar has created it's own market segment. Why would it want to compete directly with a Boxter or Cayman? The least powerful F type has more power than the Cayman S and you could easily spend 58 grand Cayman anyway. And the V8s is good value when you compare it to a 911.
Times have moved on for Jag and they've brought a proper sports car to market when most car companies are doing the opposite.
If our economy recovers and people start buying second cars again which they want to be beautiful, exciting and massive fun then the F-type is positioned perfectly.
Instead of asking why you'd want F-type over a 911 ask why you'd want a 911 over an F-type. There are just as many arguments for and against.
