New jack

My faithful jack failed couple of weeks back when changing the winter wheels on the X5, so had to get a new one.

Found a nice Arcan one at Costco, £80 + vat. Very low as well.

It's a really nice jack PVR. See them at Costco all the time. I went for the bigger and heavier steel due to lifting the Jeeps too, but else would have gone for that one with lightness and low closed height

Check the twist grip doesn't release too easily, as I had to take back one of the original 3 tonne models after the jack released itself when I was doing a brake disc change.

Luckily the car only shifted and didn't drop as it was also on axle stands, but it could have caused injury/damage had it not.

2nd one has been fine, and is now about 3 years old.

Very nice.. how do you find the castors with rolling. Does it roll easily?

I picked up a 3000lb rapid-lift. pull the lever down 3 times and you're at maximum height. I want to get another one too. But I have too much car equipment kicking around now at my parents house since I moved into a condo. What I'd do for a personal garage again...

I got the same jack from cosco.... Was fed up of driving on wood first for my old jack.... I think it's very good quality for the price.

I was in Costco the other day and looked at this jack, very nice but the handle looked very long, can you make it shorter if you use it in a place with restricted space??

Of course you could just cut it down. I would however point out that these jacks work on a gear system so you can open and close the valve at any angle and secondly you can operate them using the handle in just a partial arc ie no need to lower it to the floor.

Probably therefore no need to shorten it and all you do is make the leverage less so harder to operate.

...did it get in the way of the steering wheel then?

Very nice  thats the one i want to buy i like the fact it has wheels at the front not a roller bit more stable.
