Evening all,

I've just dipped my toes into z4 ownership, I pick up a shiny grey 2016 2.0i with 32k on the clock this Sunday. I'm pretty lucky as she'll be used as a mobile office on a daily basis, so I'll be spending a lot of time parked up writing notes and the cabin is a nice place to be.

I'm going to apologise in advance for asking loads of questions (promise I'll try and search first - I've started with looking for steering wheel locks).

Any advice you can give will be gratefully recieved

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Nobody minds people asking questions - that's usually how most of us learnt about our cars! But I'm not sure exactly what problem you have with your steering wheel lock?

Don't forget we like to see a photo once you've collected your car.

Hi Jason, good choice :P
It’s a good idea to get rid of the run flat tyres for a more compliant ride & less cracked wheels, then a stubby aerial swiftly followed by an ecu remap :)

Thanks, I meant the aftermarket anti theft wheel locks, not impressed with the stoplock as it damaged the leather steering wheel on my wife's x3.

I'll happily take some pics - picking her up around 3 on Sunday.

The dealer is putting some new Bridgestones on - I've bought the best example I could find but the remap will probably be high on my list of to dos - worried about the aerial local kids might make it a stubby sooner rather than later

You’ll probably notice the difference a remap makes, it can add almost 100bhp and loads more torque to a 20i :)

Welcome to the the forum. :) I guess if you must go to the office on a Sunday. Then it is indeed wise to choose a nice office.

Welcome, whilst you will find on some subjects a high degree of agreement there are some that cause fraught diversion that makes Brexit look like a pleasant alternative..

One of those is those who ruin the aerodynamic balance and aesthetics by suggesting use of a stubby aerial..

Welcome. I've had a Disklok for years. I'm not sure what size mine is or what size you need, but I've not noticed any problems with damage to the steering wheel. I don't use it all the time, only when I feel I need a visible security deterrent. The bag I had for it died, but I was able to buy a replacement so no big deal.

Welcome aboard.
Just a thought, but is it too late to ask the dealer to put new non run flats on? Assuming they are doing all four?
I'm sure you'd be happier with the ride, and even if you asked for top-notch tyres they'd probably work out cheaper than runflats for the dealer.

Welcome along
I wouldn't bother with a steering lock - the opportunist won't be able steal your motor, and a wheellock won't prevent a professional thief.

It was the front two - I did the "check the car" app which identified two rears approaching the limit, when I looked the rears were new but the fronts looked a little low (still loads of tread - but wanted it "right" as its my birthday prezzie) - I have heard a lot of negatives with run flats - when funds permit I'll pick up some different rubber

It's just nice to show the little s**ts that it'd be less effort to try someone else's

I was looking at those, the only thing is they look pretty chunky - does it stash behind the seat as I don't like the thought of it bouncing around in the footwell

Sorry for bombarding with questions and observations, I'm not usually this much of a pain in the proverbial

It's heavy so doesn't tend to move about as long as it's in the bag. There's Velcro on the bottom of the bag so you can stick it to your floor mats, but I wouldn't because it'll gradually pull bits off them since the Velcro works well! I either put mine in the passenger footwell when I'm without passenger or in the boot. Never tried slotting it behind a seat in the Z4, only in cars with 4 or 5 seats where it will usually go under the rear of one of the front seats OK.
