Over the weekend I got my new head unit installed. I ended up going for a Pioneer P88RSII. It's a bit of an old standard unit now but was regarded as one of the best back in its day. All of the latest head units really don't float my boat. Great features but just not to the styling Im after, apart from a select few, but i don't want to shell out close to £1k!!
I used the Scosche fitting kit, which seems to be a very good match, all be it, it required some minor trimming to get a nice flush fit.
Installing the unit itself required a bit of work. The loom for the new unit doesn't sit in line with the cut out in the back plate in the dash, so I had to get the Dremmel and do some minor surgery on the back plate for some relief space for the loom to fit. Unfortunately my phone died and I didn't get any pics, but the unit will be coming out in due course for speaker upgrades, so I'll grab a photo then, it may offer some help to anyone thinking of installing anything similar.
My car also has a parrot kit installed and the wiring required for this is crazy! There seems to be plenty of space for non standard items behind the dash, but in this case the parrot seemed to account for most of the wiring!
All in all Im pleased with how it turned out and the sound difference, even with standard speakers is night and day! The standard business system is severely lacking! I have some Tang Band subwoofers for the cubby holes and an amp. These little 6.5" subs seem to get great reviews and on first inspection, they are definitely meaty! Im undecided on the 3-ways for the front.
