gapTech, Any chance of running another or extending the existing one?

I think it is still running Stuart - I keep seeing people buying occassionally and the price is the same... Which, by the way, is really good of gapTech. Need to reinstall mine as I thought it may be causing my roof problems. Just need to get the roof motor fixed :(

Still running, mine arrived today, quite annoyingly just days after my roof motor went :headbang:
Finger crossed it turns up from sopers tomorrow so I can have a go at fitting it.

Feel your pain. I have all the bits, just waiting for some help to sort. You will looooove it when it's done though. Best roadster mod bar none :D

I'm just hoping the postman delivers my motor to work tomorrow, don't think they usually deliver registered parcels to business addresses, not ours anyway, going to camp out and catch him, and maybe a trip to the sorting office if he hasn't got it with him. Can't go another week without my roof, ESP looking at the weather.

Best mod bar none? What am I missing here guys? My roof goes up or down in about 10secs (including the windows bit) surely this mod can't be just to save having your pinky on the button for 9 of those 10 seconds? :?

Hmmm. Well I love it because... the roof can be down by the time I open the garage, or by the time I get back to the car when I'm out ; when the roof is down I can just get out, shut the door and let the car do the rest ; I can drive off from lights / the garage / a parking spot whilst the roof sorts itself out either way. Sure, it's a toy, and not strictly necessary, but i am pretty sure all the people above who have fitted it like it just as much as me

I finally got round to fitting mine today. Sadly I couldn't get it to work. :(

The scotch locks all seems to have done their job properly - I've double checked them all and they all look like they're biting into the wires nice and tightly. I've also triple checked that I've connected all the right wires to each other. I'm aware, however, that most problems are connection problems.

Neither the one-touch nor the remote function is working so I was wondering: are they independent of each other or is there one connection that might be chief suspect if both functions are down? Failing that, where do I get replacement scotch locks for a second attempt? Really not keen on this job being my first attempt ever at soldering, can't see that going well!

I've just installed mine (finished about 10mins ago) and I had exactly the same problem... nothing worked. Luckily I was testing with the ashtray module pulled.

I disconnected the ashtray module again and, with the use of my multimeter and a pin (for the small holes in the connection blocks), I verified that there was connectivity between the connection blocks and the GapTech module wires, so there were no connection issues

I reconnected the blocks and still had no response, so I pulled the Gaptech module out of the recess and tried squeezing it in different ways then trying the one-touch close function (I was working with the roof open). At one point when I squeezed, I felt a light click from the module and then everything started to work - one touch open/close and the remote.

I've put it all back and it appears to be still working, if there's anything wrong with the module I'm sure it'll show up after a couple of drives - the roads around here have been dug up so many times there's a fair amount of jolting/vibration until you're out of the residential area so there's opportunity to shake things loose :)

If it carries on working, I'll be chuffed - if it doesn't, I'll still think it's a brilliant bit of kit, but I'll know that the connections are fine and it'll be the module that's faulty - and I'm sure Gary will have some suggestions on how to test this.

Well, after a few weeks the module stopped working and, after exchanging a couple of emails with Garry from GapTech, I returned the faulty module at the start of this week, a replacement arrived on Friday and I fitted it yesterday morning - this time it all worked immediately :)

For anyone thinking of fitting one of these, do yourself a favour and don't bother with the snap-locks - the initial fitting was the first time I'd used them and when I took the module out I found that they'd cut half-way through the smaller wires Not a happy bunny and had to perform a little repair work as I refitted the module.

I didn't feel comfortable soldering in the confined space as a wayward blob of solder or slip with the iron could have done lots of damage to the leather trim, so I used crimp bullet connectors to produce a good, solid, push-fit connection.

If there's ever any need to remove the GapTech module, it can now be done very quickly and refitted in less time than it takes to remove the ashtray/switch unit. I also taped some bubble wrap around the module before pushing it forward into the under dash void so that it won't vibrate against anything and rattle.

NB Blue bullet connectors are fine for all the wires except the splice into the thicker power cable, that needs a yellow connector.

PerryGunn, worthy of a how-to... I need to re-fit mine and like the sound of these bullet connectors, but I have no clue what I'd be doing. I assume you need to cut the wire on the loom in the car, crimp one of the connectors to the plug end of the wire, then crimp the other connector to both the loom and Gaptech wires ?
