New eventuri carbon airbox with maf

maybe it was the supplier issue?
Could be a number of things. Material change, new staff, Friday afternoon builds…Whatever the reason, it’s certainly a black mark against them and if I was doing it all again today then it might very well be enough to put me off that airbox.

However, if you want a full airbox with MAF compatibility then I think it’s your only choice. I would hope/imagine that evolve/eventuri learnt and improved from those incidents as having to frequently pay out to rebuild S54s would get pretty expensive pretty quickly.

It was terrible.
I heard they tried to do an alpha-n map for the z4M, but users couldn't heal and toe because the map wouldn't allow throttle and brake application together:rofl:jokers

Who is this guy from eventuri you are talking about? As far as I was aware eventuri was just spun off the evolve name to sell those cone filters with carbon around them? The first picture above was from ~2020, so long after eventuri was created.
I think to be fair, the issue with the alpha-n map is a very old and was resolved by them a long time ago. I've had a carbon airbox and map since 2017 and it has been flawless.

I can't speak of that detached trumpet issue within the airbox - but it might have been a one-off for all I know - but I have not heard of any issues with the Evolve airbox or map recently. If they have developed a solution that retains the MAF then kudos to them I say.

It was after eventuri started. Below is the story. It was not spun out of evolve to sell cone filters but was a joint venture.

The guy behind it is an aeronautical engineer with a PhD in fluid dynamics. At least on the s54 the intake makes power. Independently proven. Can't speak for any other engine or design.

Yes, both referenced then were long after he was involved. I'm not sure that reflects on the situation given the failure method and it not being an eventuri product.
Anyway, look, I'm not here to piss on anyone's chips, least of all Beanie. I didn't think anyone on here had one of theirs, so for that I apologise. But I was asked why I wouldn't order from them and I explained my reasons both from personal experience and anecdotal. How many failures like that have there been, or how many they supplied in total, I have no idea. For me, two failures like that are two too many, the consequences are severe. Perhaps it's telling they no longer sell their own one, but rather Karbonius'.
I'm also not here to cast any aspersions on eventuri products, I know many are very happy with them including a good friend.
I would say it is quite unusual for someone with a phd to have no digital footprint of that whatsoever;)

No apologies necessary Tom, the tuning industry is rife with cowboys so it’s only right that people are aware of the good and bad in the aftermarket.

Interesting, I didn’t know that! 🤔

Still no one with experience of this?

I’m tempted but wonder if it’s better value for money to just get the intake?

I don't have experience but in the roadster top down the intake is very good soundwise. Power wise I have it from the horses mouth there is only about 5hp in it over the intake.

I honestly don't get what the fuss is on this. I literally do not see how a carbon version of the same airbox with an eventuri slapped on the end is going to deliver any more sound than an oe airbox with the eventuri slapped on it - the filter element from where the sound comes is the same in both scenarios. The proper carbon airbox has a massively increased filter area and a big ol trumpet or an intake for the engine to bellow down.

The internet will be rife with the 'yeah but this makes 5hp more than the airbox', but for my money unless someone is testing the same engine on an actual engine dyno under entirely controlled conditions I'd take any claims with a big pinch of salt and accept that all these solutions broadly produce the same results.

For my money I'd go either standard airbox with eventuri if I was budget constrained or didn't want to lose the maf, or full carbon airbox if not budget constrained. There's no substitute for the full potato, this just seems like a lot of money for a bit of carbon fibre 🤷🏼‍♂️

Most of the sound comes from the carbon material, is not just the filter.
Absolute bobbins - how on earth could it? The tone of the sound is a function of the volume and resonant frequency of the chamber - the volume of the sound is purely a function of the aperture.

Granted the sound may be different but it will not be louder than an oe airbox with an eventuri bunged on it, and for a bloody thousand quid more than a proper carbon airbox I see absolutely no reason to bother unless you're absolutely desperate to keep the maf, and support evolve as they desperately try to catchup with trs in making a dct work for the v10 m5 on oe management....

Pal, I had two Karbonius airboxes at the same time, the CSL replica, and the OE styleversion to retain the MAF, as well as the plastic stock one. I tested the Karbs back to back and the OE style one, with the stock filter box and a KN panel filter sounded very different and louder than the stock plenum. I will put the the clip so you can hear for yourself

Even Gordon Murray said a big element of the McLaren F1 sound was the material and thickness of the intake and that they iterated on that to achieve the volume they wanted

I do see the value of such designs to retain the MAF, either Karb or Evolve make an option for those not wanting to tune the car and get some of the CSL sound. I have to say in footage the evolve does sound to replicate the CSL sound close enough, but I would need to hear it in person.

I went back to the old CSL replica for the same reasons you stated, the MAF version did not have the same level of volume and quality. But I would lie if I told you the stock and carbon sounded the same.
