Bought 4 weeks ago: 2004 w/ 51K miles/ 2.5 / loaded. Somebody must have special ordered this baby. I think it has all the toys except it has single cd player. Car is the wife's. She does the driving, I do the heavy lifting.
Problems right now:
1)Cannot get MP3 hookup to work with the Mp3 player.
2)CD player makes a grinding noise whether the car is on or off. Sometimes you close a door and it stops, other times you close a door and it starts doing it. Also at times does not recognize that there is a CD in it. And sometimes will not eject.
3) It will be going into Winter storage on Nov 1. Should battery be removed or will I create a host of headaches when I try to get back into it in the spring?
4) Question: Want to ditch the runflats but if a flat is repaired with a can of fix-a-flat, will that get into and/or screw up the flat sensor on the wheel?

You guys look to have a good site here and I'm glad I found it. I did read the newbie page regarding pictures and I hope to get some up before long. Don't be too disappointed, though since the wife is not one for modifications.
This critter is box stock and probably will stay that way. Maybe a stubby for Christmas though! :D

What about an optimate or similar http://www.accumate.co.uk/it010003.html that way you can leave the battery in, im pretty sure its available state side, if not there must be an equivilant

Definatly ditch the run - flats, so much better to drive with non run flats. and no the sensor works fine with them.

Ive had the same with number 2 - dealer had it in and couldnt find any fault but replaced anyway - no problems since.

4 - consider a different run flat brand, as Im sure others on here are fed with me harping on about them the Michelin PS2 ZP are fantastic :thumbsup:

1. How is the MP3 hookup set up?
2. From what gannet said you may just want to remove the single CD unit - take the air vents out, just 2 clips to pull down (is a bit of a faff though) and then 2 screws to remove the stereo. There's plenty of advice in the forums if you do a search. Just in case it's not obvisous... disconnect the battery first. It may be that when it re-resets the other problems desist.

Thanks Rusty. Can't leave battery in. It will be going into a selfstorage steelbox pigeonhole condominium. No Power, probably no ventilation of accumulated hydrogen either :fuelfire: have battery tenders for garage at home. I haven't yet gotten myself any kind of a shop manual yet, so don't know if anything is going to lock me out should I remove the battery. I think it's obvious that the trunk should be left ajar for re-installation, but are there any other little pitfalls that I am unaware of?

I expect the sensor doesn't care whether the tires are RF or not in order to operate correctly. My concern is that if I get a flat, and refill the tire with a can of tire repair, will the goo get into the sensor and damage it?

1. Dunno, haven't had a looksee yet, it was already there when we got the car. Probably a DIY POS that was crimped or nicked on the install but found out that it shouldn't be any magic from reading posts.
2. Spent about 6 hrs last night rolling through the forums. There is quite a bit of ground alrerady covered so I'll probably be busier reading than posting.
3. Have a '67 MG Midget in the garage now in restoration and I've been to GB twice on extended holiday so I am not completely unfamiliar with the jargon, but What the hell is a faff?

Welcome.
I believe fix a flat goo in the tire sensors its not a problem as the 2004 doesn't have them, Instead it senses the diameter of the wheels as they spin and alerts if one tire is smaller than the others. Actual inner tire sensors weren't added till 06.

A classic car is a fantastic muse for faffing. With an MG (pictures please!) you are almost certainly a serial faffer (one who faffs) without even realising it!

In the context of the vents, removal simply requires two small spring clips to be pulled down and then vent slides out. A simple logical task. It took me close to twenty minutes... and from what I’ve read I was not alone (although a few claim to have performed the task in seconds). Removing the vent was a real faff.

Thanks for the eloquent vocab lesson. I like the term. I don't think we have it's equivalent in the states. Closest one I can think of is clusterf*** but that really denotes a buggered up mess that some moron thought would be good, but someone else subsequently has to deal with.
Re the midget; started resto in '81 young, no money, started having kids had less money, moved with us to new house in '90 have seen less and less of it over the years as things pile up around it. Finally now have the money, wife drove her sister's ZETA and fell in love soooo. It's been in the works farther back than digitals existed so no pix till I dig 'er out. But i WILL.
As far as my serial faffing goes, GUILTY! Just finished 4 yr resto of '36 indian chief Motorcycle. Understand very well the sniggling details involved in the pleasurable waste of time.
BTW are those 45 ACPs? I would've thought you double O types would prefer the beretta :D

Indian, MG, a German build sports car should be a doddle by comparion!

45 ACPs... sure why not! Given the speed with which they were drawn I'm pleased they don't look like a couple of flags! If I had time I'd have gone for a Omar-esque shotty and put a scar across the forehead.
 
Ok guys!
Found the problem with theMP3.
Turns out there was a switch buried down in the driver's footwell. Couldn't determine that til I found the unit in the dash and got numbers on it to google a wiring diagram.

Hey Pawn, the vents would've been a lot easier had someone not already buggered up the clips. Left side clip was spun out of the hole 'cause the melted pin closest to the outlet was snapped off. Also if anybody needs to know, the vents must be in the closed position to remove the assembly once the clips are freed.
