New discs and pads required

I posted a little while ago asking if anyone knew the size of the stadnard discs on a z4 coupe (rotors for those of you on the other side of the pond :) )

They are 325/25 BTW

I'm contemplating going for a set of EBC standard discs fron and back with their greenstuff pads.

Any one got any other advice? Or has anyone tried this setup and got any first hand reports?

Should I upgrade the front pads to the REDSTUFF ones?

Or do I just say sod it and get a BBK?

Very handy site for working out what parts you need and also seem them rather cheaply for pattern parts.

You get 10 free searches :)

Ive just had fitted EBC green stuff pads all round and EBC grooved and spotted discs very impressed with them, you wont be disappointed, well worth the cash they look amazing and so far the green stuff pads seem like they give off really low dust!

Is there any reason why you want to change the disks too, personally I would change the pads only?

Or like you say, if you have the wonga, then get a brembo kit, they look great :D

In the racing world EBC are generally considered to be crap. I have tried some of their products and tend to agree. The discs warped within five laps of Silverstone and developed a crack after twelve and also the friction material seperated from the backing plate of a pad. This isn't a good record considering I did four complete track days at Silverstone on standard OEM brakes without any problems other than a bit of brake fade and of course the fact that they were useless! If I were you I'd just take the plunge and fit a BBK, I can't recommend it enough, what a transformation!

Just had a little look on the EBC website they have got the sizes as 300 dia 22 thick for the fronts and 294 dia 19 thick for the rears

both front and rear discs are pretty worn, not completely knacked yet but they have a serious lip on all of them. Thought instead of doing the pads now and then doing discs and pads in a few months time I'd do them all in one hit.

I'm trying to avoid spending the oney on the BBK as the wife will kill me...

Was this recently? I've read some review from a couple of years reporting something similar but I've been told they have since made changes to the pads.

Ah I see, how much are they compared to the BBK then?

Edit - just seen your post about the wife :guns:

I suppose you just bought new wheels too, so you better keep a low profile for now

EBC green stuff (or certainly older versions of it) were well known for warping discs and are not up to the job in heavier weight cars. I think saxo's and 106's might get away with them however I do believe they have changed the pad makeup recently (or was that red stuff?).

I've yet to try DS2500's but I used to use project mu ns street pads http://www.project-mu.co.jp/e/product/ns.html on my 200sx which were marketed as a fast road pad and had excellent cold bite and resisted fade better than the stock oem Nissan pads. I expect they are a jap only pad and not in bmw fitment.

/edit they do a euro pad:

I think theres a few more people on here running EBC stuff im sure they will pitch in with there views. I went for green stuff as im not hard on brakes at all and was told that red stuff sometimes squeal and shall we say are for the more spirited driver! I think they look great imha and the independent that fitted them has put them on M3s that are tracked and has not seen any problems with them, I will not be tracking my car its purely for the look behind my 108s I like.

Nope, this was almost two years ago. They may well have been improved by now but you know what they say, once bitten twice shy!

Intersting stuff on the EBC and Curtis' track experience. I fitted greenstuff pads on OEM rotors a year ago and no problems at all. They have performed very well.

My preferred set up on the X5 has been brembo rotors and Axxis deluxe pads. Just an awesome stopping combination for road use.

The only comment I would add here is that choose pads and rotors for what you intend to do. Curtis races and so he needs the best money can buy and to perform in a different way ie hard furios braking lap after lap once hot. Most users are road drivers and need a pad that will not squeel, will pull an emergency stop when stone cold on a wet day, etc. EBC red squeeling and poorly performing until hot may seem cool to the average Corsa driver but are they any use?

Thanks for all the replies guys, I am pretty heavy on the brakes as I do drive my car in a spirited manner! And it will participate in the occasioanl track day.

Still not any closer to deciding what to go for...
