So, I've decided I want to replace our XC90. I do love them, and have had 2, both been pretty faultless, and more importantly, have carried the wife and children in comfort and safety over many miles. We still require 7 seats, but no longer need a buggy/pram in there too. This was one of the reasons we went from a 7 seater ML to the XC90, and which also ruled out a Q7 at the time, as the 7 seats/pram combo wasn't happening in the Audi.
Now I am in a few minds as to which way to go about it;
Option A - Buy a cheap Galaxy auto, flog the XC90 (worth about £3500) and get myself something a little bit pokey as a DD. Not really concerned about the cost of having a further vehicle, as I have a motor trade policy, so the only additional expense other than maintenance will be the RFL. Yes, I know that'll be 4 cars, 1 van and 1 motorbike in a household where only I drive..
Option B - Keep the XC90 as it's a "known quantity" and then buy something pokey
Option C - Flog the XC90, and buy one of the following; Q7 3.0 TDi, X5 (facelift) 7 seater 3.0D or possibly something you guys could suggest?
We only go out once or twice a week in the car as I use the van daily, unless it's sunny and I don't need any (or not a lot) of stock, in which case I'll take the Zed
(still surprises me what I can fit into the boot... I didn't think this would fit last week;

But it did, and with the roof down!

Anyway, I have a budget of say £15k as I don't do finance, possibly a bit more if I go with option A. Really loved the ML270 I had before the XC90, but alas they dropped the 7 seat option in 06/07, weirdly around the same time as BMW introduced it on the facelifted X5.
Requirements for a DD for me? Something that's involving to drive, the XC90 is just a bit dull now, especially when I jump into it from the Zed. Preferably a diesel, as I love the torque, BUT as mileage has dropped to around 3-4k a year in the family wagon, I could be tempted by a BIG V8 (X5?) whatever, it needs to be an auto, have leather, climate and Xenons. Oh and a GOOD sound system.. I would LOVE an RS6 Avant, the one with the V10, BUT I don't relish the thought of either being mugged, or my house being robbed for the keys..
Hit me with your thoughts good or bad (please)
Mike
