New DA on the way

Took advantage of the 10% code "VALENTINE10" with CYC and got myself the Das 21-e, a 5" backing plate and some new Megs micro fibre cutting pads.

I have a rotary and always used it but its not the most well balanced machine and pretty tiring using it so I've not done the whole Z4 as yet, working a panel at a time.
I'm thinking the Das 21-e, from what I have read will be easier and safer to use with great results.

Looking forward to getting the Z free of swirls.

Received my package from CYC today. the Das 21 is really well built I'm actually really impressed. Comes with a 5m cord which is really handy and with the additional 5" backing plate it still has little vibration and seems very well balanced. Definitely worth a go if your in the market for a DA. I'll be trying it out this weekend to see how it corrects.

I saw the CYC offer and nearly bought some meguiars microfibre pads myself - so let me know how you rate them.
I've the the das6-pro and as you say they are lovely well built machines

If the OP has come from a DAS 6 Pro or similar, I'd be interested to hear about the comparison between the two...sounds like he may have been rotary only, though

Yeah, I've never actually used a DA before, I've used rotary for about 10 years so consider myself proficient enough to use one safely and correct well with it. Only thing with it is you do get the classic marring at times ( harder to see on silver ) which is normal and then finish down with a final step but the new improved DA's seem to have almost the power of correction of a rotary but a great finishing level too with the obvious safety aspect also so decided to pick up the Das21. really impressed with the quality so far. don't get me wrong my Makita is a better build, You can knock out an Ox with that thing but the Das21 seems like I could comfortably do the entire car no problem.

I'm testing it out with the Megs Pads this weekend so I'll let you know

I have been using a DAS 21E for a while now...But conversely i came from a DAS pro....

I do have a rotary but i rarely use it now..

I use a mixture of microfibre and foam on the 21E and you can correct really quickly over large area's.. It does make the job easier,no doubt.

I wish i hadnt have sold my DAS Pro though.... I really liked it..

planning on using microfibre to cut and foam finishing pads to final. I'll always have the rotary for spot work when the 21 can't get into. have 3" plate for the rotary

used the 21 DA today to sort the bonnet / front wings and the front number. Balance on this thing is great and when your on final finish / pad its effortless. Front end is now swirl free and looking deep ( well, as deep as Ti Silver gets ) cracking on the with doors and rear in the AM and some pics once its done. well worth the purchase price if you want to sort your paint out.

Still using my rotary and a 3" pad for tight area's.

Yea..

Work well dont they..

I might give mine a little going over tommoz, there are a couple of bits i want to attend too..

And its due another coat of 50 cal.....

Excuse the terrible iPhone shots. Coils to be fitted in a couple weeks and a good refurb on the wheels + spacers and I'm set :)

Image are pre glaze and wax ( Blackhole + #845 )

Ordered my microfibre pads & compound last night - just got the cutting pads as can refine with my sonus pads.

Will post some pics up - probs get some polishing done over Easter.....Brittish Bank Holiday weather permitting!!! 8)

Had my first try with the DAS6pro and Meguiars microfibre pads over the weekend. Really really impressed with this setup. Only did 2 fairly quick passes and it's removed the swirls nicely and just left the random scratches (which i didn't want to chase anyway). I refined the finish with 2passes on a sonus pad+polish combo, but actually the finish from just meguiars suprisingly good.

I wont be going back to foam pads for my cutting that's for sure.

I didn't have my camera charged up and my phone cam didn't really capture the difference, so will try and get some photos up when I tackle the bootlid and doors. Will be going to the Duxford meet for anyone to see results in the flesh.
