Hi guys!

just picked up my 3rd BMW this time a coupe and joined the site.

I posted pix and a slight impression on e46 and will post it here for you guys!

Last sunday I tripped into a bmw dealer and drove out with a CPO's 2007 z4 coupe in jet black with 10k miles for 26 grand! almost 7 off the sticker! Having tripped into a corporate bmw dealer not a privately owned one, i was able to really take advantage of their deal.

1 of 17,000 built compared to the 180,ooo roadster ragtops they built

a quick driving impression. The cars tiny being alomst 6 feet, getting in and out of the coupe requires a hand on the lower door sill. But once in the m sports seats hug you and once the door closes youre eerilly reminded of a cockpit of the darth vader tie bomber.

visibility is quite obstructed in the rear flanks and the back windows only serves to check out taillights of most cars. There is a rear quarter panel window and its so small another car's fender fill the whole blindspot view..

Its fast, the sports mode button, with step on S, and from the dig, 1st gear zings away and by the time you pull the pedal on the steering wheel it plants the rear, squats and jets out into the next gear.

having driven may iliterations of the bmw step tranny, i am still impressed how much you can drive this 6-speed auto like a manual. Every light, in sports (like all bmw steps, it stops to 2nd gear) but jab it into first, and its a properly quick car. the automatic bleeps on downshift surprised me also..damn its so easy to fake people out that this is a stick..anyways i tinkered with the step 6speed, and i must say the sports button makes a HUGE difference in response. HUGE.

like sprint booster and non-sprint booster.

the steeing wheel feels nice..the 6 speed step in sports mode was quite a surprise. foward for downshift, pull paddle for upshift..being able to down and up shift using only one of the two paddles is a nice touch btw.

Its a love it or hate it style... when you see it in person , its gorgeous.. in pictures not so much..The inside is very welcoming but very roadster like. I know I could, but I would not be able to drive it day in and day out unless I had other cars for simple things like taking the dog or cat to the vet.

All the little proper pieces fit in the right places..nice little storage solution behind the seats.

the trunk is pretty roomy i guess..better then the other Z

pretty tiny and from the flanks almost a mini submarine.

familiar engine in an unfamiliar face, if anything happens to my e46, the blower will atleast have a new home..

overall a great fun machine with all the quirks and special feeling of owning a sleek roadster. SInce the new roadster will be coming up in may im glad i went with the coupe and saved alot.

only reason i went with the auto is my gf is going to drives it monday tuesday thursday and she refuses to learn. But i got it for her kinda anyways

so the next car is def a v8 coupe 6 speed stick, when i see those on cpo lots end of next year.

have a great weekend@!

Thanks guys! I hope to be a part of this great community and started on my first mod already, the intake sound generator foam removal mod!

8) !

Welcome - great post, write up an neat car.

What's all this about being 6' and needing a hand on the sill to get it. I'm still wondering how I could get in with a hand on the sill? Yes - before you ask I have ///M seats and am 6' :)

Welcome to the forum. Very nice looking car. I always thought that the paddle shifter were counter intuitive. I would think that you would have to push forward to upshift and pull the paddle to downshift, pretty much like when you ride a horse where you pull the rein to stop it. The funny thing is that it's how the cruise control controls work. :o At least Porsche has it correctly with its PDK. :)

Welcome to the Z4C world fella. I struggle to get in and out of my coupe and I am only 5ft 6, so how the hell you manage it! Hats off to you.

Interestingly BMW had it's steptronic set up for push forward for up and pull back for down. Around 2002 it reversed it due to demand, to the current set up, that it be push for down and pull for up. It's logical for the paddle shift to be the same. I know as I had 2 cars that operatied in opposite directions and had to reverse the shift pattern on one.

Driving he Zed with paddle shift it seems highly intuitive to me to push to go down as I'm being pushed forward under braking anyway, but frankly I'm sure we can get used to either in time :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of ultimate driving bliss. Your choice of Z4 is brilliant! Admittedly I am a bit biased as I, too, have an '07 Jet Black 3.0si coupe (red leather and 6-speed manual being the main stock differences).

Have a good time tossing her about the twisties (the Zed, not the GF), and have a grand time with countless money-sucking mods to come.

Cheers!

wow thanks for the wonderful warm welcome!

getting in the coupe is easy as plunking in the seat, but really getting out requires holding the lower sill!
