New confused guy from Essex ...

Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a Z4 Roadster, and with all the different varients I'm a tad confsued!? I've done a bit of research on these fantastic cars, but I'm still unsure what to look out for on first inspection/drive?

The car in question is a 2006 2.5 si sport, which I'm led to believe is one of the best to have ( could be wrong ) and has quite a nice spec, but then I'm also unsure as to what was standard on them and what was an option!?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and it looks like a great forum you guys have here!

AllTorque, welcome.

Can't give you a complete list of extras. but the things people most commonly change once they buy the car is the wheels, 18s or 19s can cost anything from £500 second hand to £2000 new.

Next most valuable, I would say would be the seats. See if the car has big bolsters on the seats, these are the sport seats and are very sought after and sell second hand for between £500-800.

Others include:
M sport steering wheel (approx £245)
Gear Knob (£80 ish)
Sat Nav (no idea on cost of this one, but i know its pricey)
cruise control (£60, but you'll need a loom if the car is post 2004 build)
etc

I would say the most important thing would be to get the right colour combo in the first place. I wish I could turn back time and hold out for a car in my colour with red seats but alas, I did not have the patience.

oh and have a look behind the seats, if there are cubby holes there, the car only has the standard stereo as the upgraded stereo has subs there

This is a good start:

And this is a checklist you can print off too, when going for a viewing:

Any questions about particular cars, just post them up here!

Thanks for the kind welcomes, and also for the helpful links.

From what I can remember, it has 18" M double spoke style 135 - Heated Black leather M sports seats - Cruise control - M steering wheel and gear knob - Reverse parking sensors & wind deflector. The colour is Stratus Grey I thik it is?

Oh another thing - were they fitted as standard with run flat tyres, and if so what are they like? If they're pants, what's the best replacement?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions, it's just I like to be sure.

Thanks everyone.

Sounds like a decent spec. You'll want to make sure the servicing has been carried out on time, including any time-based services which usually catches owners unaware.

Runflats are standard on all but the Z4Ms. Most owners replace the runflats at the earliest opportunity as it improves the ride and handling massively.

Spec I'd go for: heated M-sport seats, OEM wind deflector, M multi-function wheel, Carver/Logic7 audio, xenon lights, cruise control.

Nice to haves are the factory Nav and bluetooth. What kind of budget do you have?

The one in question is a 06 plate with everything listed above barring the Nav and Bluetooth, 24k on the clock, full BMWSH, Absolutely immaculate and is up for 13k.

It will be our first Rwd car, and the wife wanted to go topless this summer ( oooh matron! )

Thanks

That's from a dealer, mate. Can I ask how well these Z4's hold there money? I've already taked a huge hit in a year on my last car ( brand new ) so I'm not in a hurry to do it again!

Also, I've read that the roof can be operated by the holding down the button on the keyfob? Is this every version, or varient specific?

Thanks again.

you won't loose much more that quickly as these have lost the biggest chunk already.

As above really. Prices have tanked lately and it is the best time seasonally to buy a convertable in general too. The keyfob roof operation is standard, but depending on the previous owner may need to be programmed into the key, as can several other options. Any garage with an autologic can do this for you for a nominal charge usually around £40.

Thanks for all your replys guys, it really has helped. I guess the next thing to do is look at it, and hopefully buy it!

It's refreshing to be a part of a helpful informative forum!

No worries, incidentally which part of Essex are you from? I'm from Romford originally

Only a stones throw away in Harlow, unfortunately! You don't see many Z's about round here, as it's hot hatch central.
