New car, slightly twitchy steering at speed?

Hi guys bought the new car today, all brilliant apart from one little thing, on the motorway drive home I experienced slight twitching in the steering. Nothing severe, just slight pulls or twitches, steering seems absolutely fine in all other situations, no problem going to full lock and no noises.

Thoughts?
 
Have you got run flats? Sounds a bit like tramlining, real issue with the stock tyres. I've just ordered non RFT's to avoid this fun experience :D
 
The tyres on the car are 17" Bridgstone Potenzas, didn't look at any other model numbers etc, guessing they are run flats?

Common problem then tramlining? Seems harsh to even really call it a problem, more of a slight pain.
 
Get this feeling with all bmw on run flats , had a 3 and 5. Both did this , you get used to it in the end ....

Yeah they have a hard side wall so alot of people quickly change to Vreds, Falken 452/3, Eagle AS2's and say it feels like a different car. My tramlining and overall bouncing around twitchyness has become borderline scary in the z4 coupe since my tread on the fronts started to get near legal limits so just ordered 4x vreds. At that point its more than a slight pain :thumbsup:
 
Ok mate, just glad to hear this is relatively common, I did expect that a more severe steering issue would carry more severe symptoms. It really isn't too bad, just a minor thing. No possible big issues it could really be then?

I've only had mine for 6 months but sounds the same, hopefully the veterans will jump on this thread first thing in the morning :D
 
Not sure I'd call myself a veteran, however... :D

I had this on mine with RFTs, as said you get used to it. There is a knack I found, you just kind of relax into it if that makes sense ? So initially it makes you very tense trying to anticipate and counter it, but if you just go with it then it kind of fades away. Almost zen-like :roll:

If you have no other issues with steering at other speeds or that are more severe then I'd agree it is just tramlining.

Can't fault anything else with the steering bing, movement is good and smooth and there are no noises or anything.
 
Come on Phil, after all your posts about which Z4 to get and now you've got one, you must have more to say than this?!!

I expect a full write up with pictures etc by tomorrow lunchtime!

I have plenty to say guys! Don't worry, I will do the customary write up and pictures. I simply wanted to ask that question before I went any further, wanted a bit of reassurance.

I won't have the write up and pics done today but I will definitely do it soon!!
