New Car, NEVER go to the Dealer just for a 'test drive'

Hi all,

Popped down to the dealers on Saturday. Arranged a test drive and drove 100 miles. Tried some economy runs, cornering and foot down fun. Was a bit confused coming from a nautrally aspirated background but once you learn to manipulate the turbo the car really comes to life. Enjoying the the improved torque and top end power.

I'm coming from a 2.0 E85. The difference really is astounding. The interior quality is a big improvement, the comfort/sport modes are a nice touch, the exterior styling has really grown on me.

After a bit of negotiation i managed to bag a ex-demo.
The car is Msport 2.0 Sdrive, Black Sapphire / Coral Red Leather fitted with:
19'' 326M Alloys
Full service pack until 2017
Electric seats with memory
Seat heating
Bluetooth
Comfort package
Garmin Nav with voice control etc
Through loading storage

Really liking the engine rev on start up and the coupe look.

Couple of questions for existing owners:

Since i have no Idrive etc how do i modify the preferences for locking when driving away, daytime lights and 3 indications after 1 touch etc?

Using the existing bluetooth is it simple enough to stream music from your iphone?

Debadge or not? I've seen a few (like JDM's) which look very slick debadged.

Obviously have to fit the stubby. Does the Peugeot/Citroen stubby fit on the E89?

Here are some pics that made the decision for me:

Not picking it up until the 28th of September so i'm going to have to sit on my hands until then but it was a great deal.

Any advice on looking after black bodywork? It's my first black car and hopefully the dealer can keep it away from too many swirls until then...

Poorboys black hole for the swirls or SRP does a good job...

Citroen stubby works a treat.

Great looking car!!

Bluetooth streaming only works on certain models onwards...

I have idrive so can't help with the other issues.....

Two buckets each wash. Lambs wool mit, and as above AG Super Resin and Poorboys do a great job at masking as filling swirls

I've got to say though, two buckets, mitts and drying towels help, but machine corrections the only option for swirl free bodywork....maybe annually

Thanks for the comments/ advice. I'll try some black hole once I've picked it up.

Is it basically apply with pad and buff off?

It's my only car so I was looking for a blend of fun, great looks and the ability to do 300 miles a week whilst still having money left to enjoy myself. Tax/petrol/ insurance is a bit of a nightmare in the UK.

(it's looking gorgeous by the way :D)

Do you have a yearly car tax in UK ?

Congrats, very nice Z! Can't go wrong with sapphire black and coral red ;)

AG Super Resin Polish is great and I only just started using Chemical Guys Black Light, very nice, not sure though if it contains as many 'fillers' as PB's Black Hole, never tried that :)

Very nice.

Maintaining black paint....basically, treat it like a baby! Black can be an arse, but as you already know about swirl marks etc I feel you'll be ok. Rinse off as much crud as possible before even touching the car with a mitt, then use the two bucket method with a microfibre/lambs wool wash mit and you can minimise as much as possible.

When clean, nothing beats a black car!

Great colour combination choice :D

Just don't let the dealer valet the car and definitely don't go for the Supagard protection they will look to sell you.

As per Stark's comments, if it's not been really well looked after to date, then a paint correction through machine polishing will make a big difference.

And be really careful removing bird s**t. Obviously remove it quickly, but be careful how you do it, cos you can easily mark the clear coat.

Get it detailed/machine polished and some decent wax on.
