Let me rephrase that to say. It's the rare person that would say a cloth top car would look better as a folding tin top. :wink: Fortunately. We all have differing views. The world would be rather boring if we all thought exactly alike and had the same tastes. I my self have a very low opinion of AWD SUV's that don't really have any more off road capabilities than my Zed has. Need more room? I've owned the following convertibles:
1969 Mustang 302
1969 Corvette StingRay
1957 356 Speedster replicar
and the Zed.
I have never been told. Nor even heard of anyone stating that those would look better with a folding tin top.

Same here.
I absolutely loved my Z3 and its cloth roof (and wish I still had it) but the look of the Z4 just didn't do it for me until the E89 came out.
To be completely honest I don't care if its fabric or metal, the only really important part is that it has to be a convertible.
To say that the fabric roofs look cheap though, I cannot agree with and certainly I would argue that metal roofs may well actually be cheaper to produce as it can be formed and not hand stitched.

Well my findings are as follows
Boxter 3.4S will set me back about £45,000. Has to be PDK and have PCM
Other 2 cars I have been looking at are
AM Vantage, auto, with clear rear lights and 2012 wheels, although it has the dreaded roof aerial

A friend had the Maserati GT. Hated it, said it was worse than an 80s Fiat Panda for rattles, squeaks and bits falling off in your hand.
Folding hard tops make it more difficult for sports cars to balance the weight distribution effectively. At the top end these cars succeed or fail on fine details of handling and performance so as OG says, unnecessary weight is a problem they don't need. Especially when it only serves to make the car look crap...... which is the case with ALL folding tin tops.

I'm the opposite again! I liked the drive and the look of the E89, the fact it had a folding roof was a bonus as I've never been a roof down person myself. I rarely had the roof down on the Z4 to be honest. If they made an E89 coupe at the time I would have probably bought that.
Since selling the Z4 I haven't had one day so far where I have missed the roof being down.

It's a great looking car, which has just been revised, and the front looks very agressive and the AMG pack comes as standard, along with leather, command and a few nice extras.
Got a good deal on one too, and going for the same engine as Sars. Was going to go for the 250 diesel, but I would feel short changed after the Z 35i.
I'm going for Polar white and black leather. Having a very painful divorce from my wife and selling my house, and as silly as this sounds, this is the only positive on the horizon right now, so why not.
The Z is back at the end of this week, and should be selling on to its new owner in August

....just looked at the revised styling and it does look good, the only thing I wasn't sure about was the column shifter. However the 3,0 V6 diesel is an absolute peach and doesn't sound like a tractor....which the 4 cylinder diesels do
