My mate has the new 2.7 in silver with red leather seats and roof (Very boy racer) the car looks great with the roof down but is it me or does any car with a cloth roof just look cheap and nasty.?

Just had a close look at the new F type Jag in red and it looks fantastic, that is until you put the cloth roof up and it just looks so wrong. (The boot is tiny also). Not a great lover of the Evoque but that is the much better option. Better still whats wrong with a new Zed?
 
We looked at the Boxter and the Evoque but after a lot of backwards and forwards decided we liked the BMW's better and went for X5 and Z4. Happy we did, no regrets :)

PS I withdraw my request to move in to that bachelor pad if you're going to be mass debating all the time.
 
Haha very funny!!! Making choices you never thought you'd have to make at this stage of ones life!! And what's even sadder is that a car forms part of that choice!!! It's the simple things in life that make me happy!!!!

But thats the problem, even the Astons look great when the fabric / cloth roof is down but crap when it's up. We were told by the salesman that it's all about saving weight and increasing performance but if a Porsche , Aston or the new Jag f Type engine can't handle the minimal increase in the weight of a proper roof then it's a poor show. Perhaps a thread for another discussion
 
There are pros and cons to having a metal roof, there are two problems with metal roofs that I see, the roof line is a compromise, fabric roofs just blend into the body better. The second is the loss of boot space when the metal roof is down, the extreme example is the 3 series, you'd struggle to get a sandwich box in there with the roof down. Weight I believe is not a real issue either way, the e89 roof was pretty light but the whole car became bigger and thus heavier.

The only advantage the metal roof has is that it's more secure, oh and if you get a Mercedes metal roof you can have glass section to lighten the interior.
