New car for the Mrs

125 would be great but it's just too much right now, the 123d would be perfect.

If the 123d can get around 50mpg while on the motorway (mrs drives at 60mph) it would seem to be a winner (still open minded to the right 120d).

We have a 120d coupe. Great car, can't really fault it.

If your'e near South Somerset and want a closer look at one then let me know.

Very kind and I would love to but I'm up in sunny blackpool.

123d that engine is a weapon.

Probably one of the best engines they have produced redic it only resides in one BMW atm.

They come with a premium tho.

N47 is in millions of BMWs. 120d = N47 with 1 turbo, 123d = N47 with twin scroll turbo, Alpina D3BT = N47 with Bi turbo, 125d/525d/X1 25d = N47 with twin turbos. The engine in it's 123d guise has been replaced by the 25d's as this set up produces more power, more torque and better fuel economy.

Popey, I don't think your wife will have any trouble seeing 50mpg out of either car under those driving conditions. Even with Sport mode active, if I drive at a steady 60mph for any prolonged period on the motorway it is not uncommon to see 60+mpg.

The only gripe i could make about the engine is it's lack of refinement. Nearly every diesel i've ever driven has been more refined but none have been as pokey.

So after a few years with the Volvo C30 the other half as had her head turned by the 1 series coupe.

After driving a 118d she was left feeling some what underwhelmed by its power.

So now the options are a 120d or a 123d, it must diesel due to dong 20k plus miles a year.

I was hoping for some advice or tip, chances are the car will be a BMW AUC.

Personally i think the 123d but not sure if it's real world fuel economy will stack up, or insurance costs for a 23 year old.
Hi Popey,my wife has a 2011 123d msport coupe,it is very quick,204 bhp as apposed to 177 in the 120d.Road tax £125 a year.Fuel economy is very good not that much different to a120d,don't regret not getting 123d m sport coupe

You'll easy get 50 mpg driving at those speeds, probably slightly more!
