New car / battery fail : (

So the other 40 minutes was from when you did not own the car then? :poke:

Cheeky :D ! I literally drove for around 3 minutes after picking it up and pulled over and had a play trying to connect the bluetooth to the phone. Made a phone call, had a natter and then tried to start the car :| AA were out within 10 mins thankfully

Then on the ferry the next day getting it back home the alarm must have been going off for hours so I needed a second boost once I docked at Liverpool too  Next time I'm on a ferry I will lock the car with the key but leave the alarm off – though I presume there must be a way to set it without activating the motion sensor?

i should really get a treacle charger for mine then... As mine gets used once every 2 weeks.

I put mine on trickle charge every couple of months, be aware of the vapour build up so open the boot on your ///M, obviously the light will come on when you open it, so lock the boot with the key (whilst it's open :D )

You dont need to worry, the battery has a proper vent system.......

Thanks chaps for all your comments and input, this is all really useful stuff  I've now had my ruby for just 2 days and the more I drive her, the more I absolutely love the feel and experience, responsive handling and grip too- even the "M" stitching around the steering wheel is a nice touch, all in all a very happy bunny over here  will get some more pics up soon. :D

This assumes you have the pipe connected correctly of course. It is possible to fit battery without connecting the breathe pipe. So worth checking any none OEM battery is configured correctly.

Batteries can fail when the car is used mainly on short journeys, mine did. The best medicine for the M is a good blast :driving:

flimper - in your case it is always like this:

- Drive away from home, at first junction stop, switch off the engine and get the portable navigation out of the boot where it was stored.
- Drive away again and stop after a few hundred yards as the satnav has not got a lock yet. Wait a couple of minutes.
- Drive away again and once passing a high building or tunnel, lost reception so stop, switch off engine to get the map out on where to go now.
- Drive away again and stop after a few miles as the portable navigation has dropped off the screen on the floor.
- Reattach satnav, start car and drive away again.

That is the real reason your battery failed

Ok... stupid question time...

I don't use my M all the time and when I went to take it for a blast last weekend the battery was dead. I don't have a garage where I live so I can't leave the boot open with one of these connected.

Would it work if it was connected to the battery terminals until the bonnet? Or does it need to be connected directly to the battery?

Cheers!

Why not put a RCD connected extension cable through to the boot and connect to a trickle charger? Just remember to disconnect before you leave the driveway :)

Its ansolutely fine to charge through the engine bay terminals, they are present so you dont have to mess around in the boot......... Ive trickle charged through the front terminals since new :-)

Great, thanks guys. Will get one of these ordered. Have a private driveway at the bottom of my garden so will get an extension lead run down there and connect her up!
